If you have a loved one resting at Stanley Cemetery, officers will be available to speak with directly on Tuesday 17th March regarding this upcoming inspection. We know how important memorials are so please do share this post to reach anyone who may be affected 🤍
🌿 Stanley Cemetery Memorial Safety Inspection Notice 🌿
Myself, Lynn and Jack have been informed that a full inspection of memorials at Stanley Cemetery will take place from week commencing Monday 23rd March 2026 as part of the council’s ongoing Memorial Safety Programme.
We understand how important these memorials are to families and loved ones, and appreciate that this kind of work can feel concerning. The purpose of the inspection is to ensure that all memorials are safe and secure for visitors, staff and the wider community.
📌 Open Day for Memorial Owners
🗓 Tuesday 17th March 2026
⏰ 10:00am – 1:00pm
📍 Stanley Cemetery
Officers will be available on the day to answer any questions or concerns before testing begins.
If any memorials are found not to meet current safety standards, they will be carefully tagged and, where contact details are available, owners will receive a letter. Families will be given 12 months to arrange for a memorial mason to carry out repairs and make the memorial permanently safe.
If repairs are not completed within that period, a further reminder will be issued (where possible) before any further action is taken as part of the ongoing programme.
