Rethinking Self-Care: Finding Healing in Unexpected Places
When we think of self-care, we often picture bubble baths, skincare, or fitness goals.
But real self-care runs much deeper — it’s about doing what lights you up, reconnecting with your body, and expressing who you truly are.
This weekend, my self-care looked like singing, yoga, and pottery — surrounded by creativity, laughter, and an incredible community so much talent. I joined Liscard Community Links CIC Choir and other choirs from the Over The Water family for a retreat filled with courage, connection, and joy.
We’re so blessed to be led by Amy chalmers, Matt Chalmers, and Liz O’Brien, whose passion and warmth bring out the best in everyone. Some of us — myself included — even braved our first solos in over 20 years. It was a big step, but a healing one too.
Because music and breathwork carry healing frequencies — they open the throat chakra, calm the heart, activate the vagus nerve, and nurture mental and emotional wellbeing.
Singing, like bodywork, helps release tension and restore harmony through vibration and sound.
At Anaroma Wellness Holistic services and education at Black Heart Training Academy , I bring these same principles into my practice.
During treatments, I often use an sound box, which plays seven carefully programmed healing frequencies within the music — supporting the body’s natural rhythm, deep relaxation, and energetic balance. Combined with massage, aromatherapy, myofascial release, and other holistic therapies, each session becomes a space to unwind, regulate, and reconnect.

Sometimes self-care isn’t about slowing down — it’s about stepping forward, using your voice, and remembering that healing can sound a lot like music. 💚
