It’s been a fantastic couple of weeks delivering training across businesses, educational settings, and nurseries — supporting dedicated teams with the knowledge and confidence to respond in an emergency.

📢 We’ve introduced updated guidance into all of our first aid courses.

Aligned with the latest UK Resuscitation Council recommendations, JPF First Aid has implemented these changes from 2nd March 2026.

If you’re one of our newsletter subscribers, you’ll have seen these updates highlighted in February’s edition, which was sent out last Tuesday. Behind the scenes, we’ve been updating resources and materials to ensure our learners receive the very latest guidance.

We’ve also been providing further support to businesses and first aiders through dedicated Zoom sessions — creating space to discuss the changes in more detail and answer any questions about how they apply in real-life situations.

🔎 What’s Changing?

🩺 Primary Survey Update
This includes contacting the emergency services immediately after confirming there is no response.

🩸 Catastrophic (Life-Threatening) Bleeding
• We now check for catastrophic bleeding before airway and breathing.
• Improvised techniques for catastrophic bleeding are now included on all First Aid at Work courses.

❤️ Paediatric CPR Update
For infants, we now use the two-thumb technique for chest compressions instead of the previous two-finger method.

These evidence-based changes are designed to give you even more clarity and confidence when it matters most.

Episode 43 - Stroke: Recognising the Signs and Acting FAST

In this episode of the JPF First Aid Podcast, host John Fogarty breaks down what a stroke is, why it’s a medical emergency, and how to recognise it quickly. He explains the three main types of stroke (ischaemic, haemorrhagic and TIA/“mini-stroke”), the FAST test, and the less well-known symptoms that don’t always fit the acronym (such as sudden vision loss, severe dizziness or a sudden, intense headache).

John also shares practical first aid actions while waiting for an ambulance, and highlights who can be at risk, including younger adults, and why acting fast can reduce long-term disability.

Cost Effective & High Quality First Aid Training!

JPF First Aid is a training provider in the West Midlands and surrounding areas, supporting businesses and schools, to help their staff receive high quality training to meet their employer obligations and HSE requirements at cost effective prices. Training is delivered to First Aid Awards standards via a Nuco Training Approved Instructor and qualifications are regulated by Ofqual. Certificates are provided upon successful completion of the regulated courses and last for 3 years.

JPF First Aid can also support schools and educational settings with First Aid training to pupils/students with a variety of courses available to be delivered either face to face or via virtual training depending on the preferred preference.

JPF First Aid can also support first aid training to school groups, cubs & brownies, sports groups, church and community groups as well as public first aid training courses available to book.

Other courses available to book with JPF First Aid includes: First Aid Risk Assessment course, Health and Safety, Fire Safety, Manual Handling and Food Safety in Catering courses.
