Outdoor Approach First Aid provides Rescue Emergency Care (REC) outdoor first aid courses. A 'jargon-free' course equally useful on the hill or at home!

We also provide the full range of NUCO workplace related courses - including Mental Health courses Practical, jargon-free first aid courses, that are equally at home in remote and urban situations but with an emphasis on the remote! Local, fully certified 1 and 2 day courses are available, tailored to suit the candidate's needs where at all possible. The 2 day course is recognised by many UK NGB's such as MLT, BCU and RYA.

Last weekend was my last Outdoor First Aid Course, as I'm retiring at the end of March - just in time for my 67th birthday in April!

A great course with a great bunch of candidates!

Here's the photos from last weekend's course, my last open course, just one more closed course early next year before I fully retire. A great bunch of candidates and we managed to avoid the worst of the weather!

Outdoor Approach First Aid - Who we are and what we offer

Outdoor Approach First Aid is a first aid course provider based in Cheshire that has been delivering first aid courses since 2011. We offer a full range of practical, jargon-free first aid courses that are specifically suited for remote and urban situations, workplace or at home. Local, fully certified 1, 2 and 3 day courses are available, tailored to suit the candidate’s needs where at all possible.

📷Our principal outdoor first aid course is the highly respected 16 hour Rescue Emergency Care Emergency Aid that is recognised by the many UK National Governing Bodies such as the Mountain Training UK (ML, SPA, MIA, MIC, IML and BMG) British Canoeing (BC), BASI and the RYA. We run up to eight ‘open courses every year and up to another six closed courses for various youth organisations including the Scout Association, Guides and Duke of Edinburgh Award (if your organisation would like to book a closed course, please contact us for prices and availability).

As from December 2018 we will also be offering 16 Hour Rescue Emergency Care Advanced First Aid courses. These courses build on the syllabus of the 16 Hour REC Emergency First Aid course and develops the basic skills, covers in much more depth both primary and secondary surveys, airway management, uses of proprietary and improvised splints and prolonged casualty care. Very practical in its approach and mainly run in a realistic outdoor environment, the course can be used revalidate NGB qualifications. Candidates need to have attended a REC Emergency First Aid Course and pass a short pre-course question paper prior to attending.

We also offer the 8 hour Rescue Emergency Basic First Aid, this course complies fully with the first aid requirements for a BC Level 2 coach and the MT Climbing Wall Instructor Award.

In addition to the REC Outdoor Courses we also offer a full range of workplace related OFQUAL accredited qualifications through NUCO Training. These courses include:

Level 3 First Aid at Work, Level 3 First Aid at Work Requalification,

Level 3 Paediatric First Aid, Level 3 Emergency Paediatric First Aid,

Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work, Level 3 Outdoor First Aid,

Level 2 CPR & AED, Level 2 Basic Life Support & Safe Use of an AED

These courses are run over a 4 -18 hour tuition period and can be delivered at either our training centre or at your own venue at a time and day to suit. All the awards are valid for three years.

About your Trainer

Ron Gemmell has been leading walking parties in the British hills and mountains for over thirty years, holds a ML (Summer) certificate and has regularly led parties on multi-day walks in remote mountainous areas. He has been a scout leader for over thirty years and involved in youth work in general since 1980.

The REC courses are therefore framed with ‘mountain leading’ in mind, taking on board the experience of hundreds of ‘hill days’ – with a real working knowledge of what it’s like to deal with real first aid incidents that thankfully only rarely happen!

In addition to being a first aid trainer, Ron provides the first aid support for local organizations (including small event cover) and has previously worked as a self-employed mechanical engineer in the water industry. With over thirty years of experience working in both offices and on sites throughout the UK he has considerable knowledge of the kind of workplace accidents that can occur.
