May Contain Nuts theatre company

We are a small theatre company founded in May 2012 by the Drama Therapist at Watford Assessment and Therapy Services. Situated initially in Shrodells psychiatric wing of Watford General Hospital, we have moved, with WA&TS, to the second floor of Colne House, the HPFT Community Hub in Upton Road. Initially consisting of 6 members, we are now up to 11, including a dedicated producer who labours to promote our work and has obtained for us an Arts Council grant. All members have experience of mental ill health, be it personal or professional, and this informs our work in a unique and valuable way. We work through improvisation, and other character development techniques to produce plays, which remain only loosely scripted, so each performance is unique and organic. Our work addresses themes of mental health, both head on and more obliquely, with a focus on education and awareness with the hope of reducing stigma concerning the subject of mental health. Nicola Williams, our company producer, applied as an individual producer for Arts council funding and was successful in receiving funding in order for us to lead us on a 5 month project, under the Artistic direction of Gerald Maiello, where we will be collaborating with Trestle Theatre Base to devise a theatre piece around self harm. We will have a rehearsal period of 5 months in which we'll be attending 4 Trestle workshops and culminating in September with two scratch performances at both Watford (Colne House) and St Albans (Trestle). The performances will be invitation only so please contact Nicola, Gerald or the company if you are interested in attending. The performances will be an opportunity for feedback and evaluation as well as meeting potential partners, supporters, future funders and all those interested in our project.
