💊 Medicine waste is estimated to cost the NHS nationally around £300m a year.

💊 To reduce medicine waste, the NHS asks that you only order the medicines you need, check your medicine cabinet before ordering repeat prescriptions, and return any unwanted or expired medicines to a pharmacy for safe disposal.

💊 Never put them in your household bin or flush them down the toilet.

💊 You can also speak to your GP or pharmacist to review your medication and ensure it is still appropriate for you.

You cannot currently book a COVID-19 vaccination using the NHS booking service. For most people, vaccinations are only available seasonally. The COVID-19 vaccination bookings service will reopen when seasonal vaccinations are available.

🧠 It’s Stress Awareness Week 🧘‍♂️
Stress affects us all at times, but chronic stress can impact both your mental and physical health. Taking small steps to manage stress can make a big difference.

💡 Tips to manage stress:
🔹 Take regular breaks and practise mindfulness.
🔹 Stay active – even a short walk helps.
🔹 Talk to someone you trust about how you feel.
🔹 Prioritise sleep and balanced meals.

If stress is affecting your daily life, we are always here with advice, support, or referrals to specialist services.
Remember: looking after your mental health is just as important as your physical health. 💙

• Keep raw and cooked foods separate

🧠💬 This World Mental Health Day, let’s take a moment to check in on each other - a simple conversation can make a world of difference 🌍❤️

Here’s how to support someone who might be struggling:
1️⃣ Find a quiet space with no distractions - be fully present 🤝
2️⃣ Listen without interrupting and ask thoughtful questions 👂❓
3️⃣ Ask how you can help - it might be booking a GP appointment, helping with chores, or just being there 🫶

📱 Remember: social media isn’t always real.
Feeling low? It’s OK to log off. It’s OK to not be OK all the time.
Less screen time = more time to breathe, reflect, and reset 🌿💚

💡 Mental health matters every day.
Small actions = BIG impact.

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK – but early detection can save lives.

🤲 Check yourself regularly.

· Know what’s normal for your breasts

· Look and feel for changes once a month

· Don’t ignore anything unusual

👩‍⚕️ Screening saves lives.

Women aged 50–71 are invited for NHS breast screening every 3 years.

If you’ve received an invitation, make your appointment – it could be life-saving.

If you are aged 71 or over, you are not automatically invited for breast screening. However, you do have the right to free screening every 3 years if you ask. All you need to do is phone or write to your local breast screening unit to make an appointment.

You can find out more about the NHS breast screening programme here- https://www.nhs.uk/tests-and-treatments/breast-screening-mammogram/

🔎 Common symptoms to look out for:

· A lump or thickening in the breast or underarm

· Change in size, shape, or feel of the breast

· Skin changes (dimpling, puckering, redness)

· Ni**le changes (inversion, discharge, rash)

· Unexplained pain in the breast or armpit

💡Most breast changes are not cancer – but always get them checked by your GP.

💻For more information and support: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/breast-cancer-in-women/

✨ This October, take time to check, attend screening, and raise awareness. Together, we can make a difference.

Find out about NHS breast screening, including when you'll be invited, how to book, what happens and what your result means.

Please arrive as near as possible to your appointment time, not earlier, this will help to reduce queueing and ease space in the surgery. Protected Time for Learning - Surgery Closure

Morland House Surgery will be closing for the afternoon on Wednesday 24th September from 1pm for valuable staff training and development. We will reopen as normal from Thursday 25th September at 8am.
Protected Time for Learning (PTL) allows all our staff time to be released for educational sessions such as basic life support, clinical management updates, development of new services, customer care and mandatory training.
If you call the surgery during a PTL afternoon you will receive a recorded message giving you advice on who to call should you need the services of a GP.
We apologise for any inconvenience that this causes for patients but we hope that you understand that this is the most efficient and cost effective way of ensuring that our staff receive all the necessary training that they require.
