Happy Festive season to all! Here’s a quick post. This was completed just before Christmas. This is a ‘partscaster’ - a collection of parts assembled to make a one-off guitar. This guitar’s owner contacted me because although he loves the final result (and it does look really cool!) he found the frets too high for his playing style. The fix? A bit of judicious work with my feet levelling beam to reduce the fret heights and the crown and polish. It’s had a full set up as well! Next for this one will be a pickup swap. I’ve got another guitar from this customer, a Telecaster, to swap a pair of pickups so watch this space!

OK, you see this and what do you think? For me, it’s 100% Clapton. My dad bought me a copy of Timepieces Vol 2 (LP, of coursse!) way back and this much loved, much played guitar, only needs a tank top and a pocket watch to complete the scene! It’s recently been at Cygnus. The owner Matt has had this lovely Fender Stratocaster since new. It needed a bit of love and care, a partial fret dress to remove a little wear, and a full setup and service. Back with the owner ready for hundreds more gigs ahead.

Here’s another quick post. This time a Farida Dreadnought style acoustic. It belongs to a young man who’s at university but it’s been a bit unplayed. No problem. A bit of Cygnus magic and voila! Good as new and soon to be reunited with its owner for years more playing ahead.

And finally for now, here’s a short scale acoustic bass which came on for a service, check up and a new set of strings. Another in Julian’s collection, but I think this one actually belongs to his wife.

Here’s the Yamaha acoustic that is the sibling of the PRS SE recently posted. Another that just needed a service and an experienced eye. I noticed again some split plastic washers on the tuners, so back to the spare parts tub for a quick and easy fix! All good, a clean bill of health and both are back with the happy customer.

Here’s rhe second of the two acoustics that came by. This Ibanez and its sibling were a bit dusty, unloved and forgotten in need of some Cygnus TLC. I’ve run some water thin super glue into the crack on the top to halt any further issues, dyed the visible exposed wood, then cleaned up the area, given the whole guitar a good clean as well as cleaning the fret board (it was very dry!), and giving it a good service and a set of strings. Both were then taken down south for a gig. Happy to report the customer was very pleased with the results.

Phew - are you all keeping up? Another two acoustics now. Both came in, after being a bit ‘forgotten’ needing a bit of a clean, checkup and service. I’ve spent a bit of time on the fret board and frets to make sure these are not just left to one side. I do like a good transformation!! Wish I’d taken some before photos!
