A lovely Yamaha acoustic which came in for a set of strings and a service. This guitar’s owner prefers lighter gauge strings, so after I cleaned and oiled the fret board, checked and polished the frets, I fitted a set of D'Addario and Co. 10-50 acoustic strings. It’s also had a nice all over polish with Ernie Ball guitar polish.

Well, here we are at the end of another week and here’s another post for you all. Whether you asked for it or not 😉.
This Fender is the blueprint of a classic strat for me. When looking at this I think . A very nice black strat, recently bought by the current owner, that came in for a setup and a noisy output. As part of the service I always inspect the electrics anyway, and I found a broken earth lead that I resoldered onto the tone pot. The noise however hadn’t gone so further investigation was needed! I found that the previous owner must have had an issue, because the live (hot) and earth wires going to the output jack were soldered the wrong way round. Also found the earth wire to the trek claw had come adrift. Once I’d sorted that, the guitar is now earth-buzz free. As it should be.
I’ve also cleaned and polished the neck and frets. Checked the frets to make sure they’re all level, adjusted the action and intonation and set the tremolo to be floating. The customer has had this back for a day and told me he’s very happy with the results, as you can see in his message to me;

Hi Dave, hope you had a good evening. Just to let you know, the guitar is completely different now you’ve sorted it out. It’s perfect, I’m really pleased. 👍

Enough of that. Here’s a lovely example of one of Fender’s finest. A three colour . Proudly . This has come in for a general service and setup and it’s given me the opportunity to see what’s under the hood of a modern, Made in Mexico strat. As far as I can see the only difference is where it’s made, not what goes into it! All the same parts, woods, wiring, potentiometers, pickups as the Made in USA! Really nice quality and makes you think, unless you NEED a USA badge, why pay more? Other nice things are rolled fingerboard edges which make the playing experience feel more ‘played in’ and a large block two post trem with bent steel saddles, classic tuners and high quality plastics. What’s not to like?

Happy Friday everyone! I’ve said this before but affordable guitars are sooooo much better than they were when I was a lad. There are so many brands to choose from. This is an amazing copy, from Andertons Music Co. It looks stunning! All for around £200! Mahogany body and neck, maple top and flame maple veneer! Quality feel to all the hardware, and a nice gloss finish. This one came in for a service and setup so it’s had the usual Cygnus love and attention. A full service and setup with Newtone Strings. Another happy customer!

Hello friends. This week I’ve had this really lovely Fender USA Stratocaster in for some much needed TLC while the owner is away on holiday. It’s had a full service and setup. Frets are showing a little wear, but there are no flat spots causing any issues. One thing I pride myself on is being honest with my customers. I treat these services more like and MOT test, and the fret wear is an ‘advisory’ at the moment. Something for future maintenance. The owner reported a bit of an issue with the jack, and I found the wires to be partially broken, so I’ve also cut back, stripped and resoldered the white ‘hot’ or signal wire and cleaned the jack contacts. It’s had a fresh set of D'Addario and Co. strings and a polish all over. A really nice player this one! Looks like it was bought from my friend Chris at AMP used guitars amps & effects in Macclesfield. He chooses only the best for his shop, so you know this is a good one!
