"As a Mental Health First Aider, I'm here to listen, reassure and guide, reminding everyone that no one has to face things alone.”

Meet Saeed, one of our nurses and Mental Health First Aiders at The Wilmslow Hospital. Whether it’s checking in on a colleague who doesn’t seem themselves or being a friendly ear when someone needs to talk, Saeed is there to listen and help people find the right support.

When asked what he most loves about being a Mental Health First Aider, Saeed, who has worked at The Wilmslow Hospital for 2.5 years, said “As a nurse, naturally, I spend a lot of time talking to people in different roles across the hospital. If you see someone who seems to be struggling, we ask if we can help or support them in any way and then connect them with the right support to help them.”

"I see this as a natural extension of what I do, because knowing someone cares can make all the difference.”

At The Wilmslow Hospital, our multidisciplinary team works side by side to help you optimise every element of that package so you can lift, move, work and live the way you want to.

We spoke with Mr Jonathan Wild, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, who explains that bowel cancer is increasingly affecting younger adults but when caught early, it’s highly treatable.

This isn’t about fear. It’s about awareness. 💙

For years, haemorrhoid surgery meant discomfort, long recovery and time off work. But new minimally invasive techniques are transforming how we treat this common condition.

Mr Mohammed Saeed, Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon at The Wilmslow Hospital, talks us through radiofrequency ablation, a precise, needle-based treatment that shrinks haemorrhoids from the inside without cutting or open wounds.

✨ What this means for you:

✨ What this means for you:

- Mild ache or discomfort for just a few days
- Quick return to normal life
- Lasting results

If you’re noticing any lumps, bumps, itching or bleeding, don’t ignore them. Not everything that looks or feels like haemorrhoids is the same and getting checked early can make all the difference.

Why do urinary tract infections keep coming back?

Consultant Urologist Louise Olson explains that recurrent UTIs often appear at key stages in life; puberty, pregnancy and menopause when hormone levels naturally change.

“These are normal phases of life, but they can affect how your bladder behaves and how easily bacteria can cause infection,” says Ms Olson.

At The Wilmslow Hospital, our team can help identify what’s behind your symptoms and create a plan that works for you. From checking bladder emptying and kidney function to simple prevention strategies or medications, there’s always something we can do.

✨ If you’re getting repeated infections or bladder symptoms, don’t put it off.

Plantar fasciitis is strongly linked to menopause.

Falling oestrogen levels can make soft tissues less stretchy. Combined with subtle weight gain and calf tightness, it can create the perfect storm for heel pain.

Mr Edward Gee, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Wilmslow Hospital, explains how hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can trigger or worsen plantar fasciitis and why getting the right diagnosis matters.

The good news? Most cases can be treated successfully without surgery.
