Do you believe this statement?

🍑I like most of us probably, have always known, from what we are told, that diet is important for health, right? When I supported my mother with terminal cancer, the true meaning of that became so strongly apparent.

🍇Its important to me, that you know I am not suggesting diet is a miracle cure that replaces modern medicine. I am not. When I reference my mothers case it is to illustrate the fact that nutrition has much more power over the health of our body and ability influence the course of disease than we ever tend to believe.

🥦My goal is not to convince you of this but to make you more curious than before, open a door a possibility that maybe was shut just enough for you to be brave enough to see for yourself what possibilities are out there for you and your body when you try.

Hands up if you:

👉Started to feel you can’t quite “get away with” as much as you used to

👉More easily put on weight or notice it gradually creeping up

👉Energy on the decline

👉More aches and pains

👉Have high blood pressure, blood sugar or been told by your doctor you would benefit from making diet and lifestyle change.

Do not fear. Well actually … you are right to fear but DON’T whatever you do let it hold you back or feel powerless and do nothing.

Many of the signs of aging, which sadly have become the norm are a result of the typical diets and lifestyles (stress etc) that our modern lives have resulted in AND better still many of the serious and chronic illness so many of us develop in mid to later life are also a result of this.

Diet and lifestyle form the foundation of our body’s health and wellbeing. The potential for changes in these areas cannot be underestimated.

The prospect of these changes may feel daunting but that is where I help – assess, plan and transition you gradually. The goal of our work is creating sustainable change and for it to be it need to work for you in your unique life circumstances, tastes, preferences and realities. I respect that and will honour your individuality in all our work.

Sweet Potato and Black Bean Enchiladas

A real favourite from the cook book. Absolutely delicious! All ages love this classic. The sauce is full of flavour and packs a punch if you are heavy on the chilli like me!

Packed with colourful veg (I used broccoli instead of red pepper in this one)

- sweet potato 🍠
- red onion 🧅
- broccoli 🥦
- garlic 🧄
- tomato 🍅
- coriander 🌿
- kale 🥬
- lime

*Sensitive content about loss*

Mum didn’t express her feelings out loud much, she was private and reflective in her thoughts. I always wondered if she had written this, somehow knowing I would find it. I believe so and know she would absolutely want me to think of her loss in this way.
My heart is heavy with her loss but I am full of the love we shared and smile because she lived and I am blessed for all that we shared.

It was after my mum passed away that I found this poem in her belongings, written out by her. Mum had cancer on and off for 20 years, from the age of 40. We lost her a few days after her 61st – 9 months after she had been given 3 months to live. I am grateful and blessed for this shared experience and the lessons her illness taught.

Following on, I knew I wanted to be in a place to help other familes avoid untimely loss through illness that can be improved if not healed by getting to the root cause, doing more than treating symptoms but transforming the health and functioning of the body from the foundations up. Good nutrition and lifestyle have a huge transformative effect – the potential for which can NEVER be underestimated.

Dont ever feel you are powerless in the course of your illness. So much of what we suffer from can be improved if not reversed with nutrition and lifestyle change. Be open, brave and courageous.

Absolutely, categorically not. Our bodies have an incredible ability to heal from damage, all we need to do it give it the opportunity to do so. It is NEVER too late and the potential can never be underestimated!

It doesn’t matter that you may not have eaten the best foods all your life, had a stressful time and maybe neglected your health up to this point. When it comes to helping our body’s, it is never too late. Literally the food you eat at your next meal will either help your body go one of two ways - further into illness and disease or one step away from it.

Given the opportunity, our bodies do remarkable things and surprise all of us!

As a specialist functional medicine coach, I have been trained to understand the connection between the health of our bodies and the food and lifestyle we keep. The connection between so many of the illness and disease we experience is so strong.

When we understand this link, and make choices that we know are directly improving the health and functioning of our body, on a cellular level it is an incredibly empowering and uplifting way to be. You can have a direct influence on your body!

To improve the health of our body we need to look beyond what’s on our plates to achieve this.

When we feel good in ourselves, it has both a direct and indirect positive impact on our ability to gain health. If we feel down on ourselves, it tends to easily spiral – leading to unhelpful food and life choices.

Our mood is of course improved by eating well, getting a good sleep and moving regularly – but while we aim to achieve those things there are a great many things, we can easily do to improve the way we feel in ourselves – with really great benefits.

One of the easiest ways to feel better in ourselves is to get to know our strengths – more specifically, our top 5 strengths. Mine are: social intelligence (understanding others) perspective (wider view) leadership, hope and zest (optimism and enthusiasm for life).

Your top 5 strengths are pretty evident in your day-to-day character as you draw on them regularly at work, home, to problem solve and cope. By also knowing the other strengths we use less often we can actively practice those to increase our feel-good vibes – e.g. If I make a conscious effort to be grateful or kind (2 other strengths we all have) it is an easy way to boost my mood.

I came to health coaching after supporting my mother with terminal cancer in 2014. After a 20-year history of cancer she was given 3 months to live. In a desperate attempt to find anything mum changed her diet drastically. 4 weeks later we received the biggest lesson in the power of food that one could ever receive.

At PET scan revealed NO cancer in her body!

These changes came too late for my mum but they were the driving force behind why I left my career in nursing to be where I am as a coach. I wanted to be in a position to prevent any other family losing a mum or dad from something that could be avoided.
Death can not be avoided. However much of the suffering, chronic ill health and un-timely loss can be.

We lose too many people and too many lives are compromised by illness that can be prevented and reversed with the right diet and lifestyle changes.

CVD, Type 2 diabetes and Metabolic syndrome all have a large number of risk factors that if diet and lifestyle changes are made a person drastically reduces the chances of developing the disease.

No change is too small, and it is really is never too late to make a change. Our bodies have an amazing ability to heal, we just need to give it the right conditions to do so.

It’s not just food that directly determines your health but lifestyle factors such as sleep. A poor nights sleep lowers immunity, adds to stress and overtime contributes to the development of serious chronic ill-health.

😴How is your sleep?

🌒As adults we need 7-8 hours of quality sleep a night and we should wake up feeling refreshed. How often does that happen for you?

If you don't chances are it is contributing to the health and wellbeing of you right now.

👉Health coaching is not just about the food you eat, it is about all the other aspects of your life which are contributing to your health. We work together to set realistic goals within all areas with the goal of improving your health. We create new healthy habits which will go on to benefit you in the future and keep you well and feeling the best you can.

The cumulative effect is significant. If you have high blood pressure you do not need to feel you are on a road to a life of chronic and serious ill health. Make these dietary modifications in-line with the functional nutrition cardio-metabolic food plan. Specifically designed to target those with and at risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes and metabolic syndrome and you will start seeing a difference.

A Mediterranean diet has been found to be incredibly beneficial for reducing risk factors associated with the development of cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes.

One of the most beneficial aspects of the Mediterranean way of eating is that is focuses on wholefoods (real food) with little or no processed foods, plenty of vegetables and good quality fats and proteins.

This is why a modified Mediterranean approach forms an important aspect of the cardiometabolic food plan I use with you if you have or are at risk of CVD, Metabolic Syndrome or Type 2 diabetes.

By gradually making changes in-line with this way of eating you can lower your blood pressure, better balance your blood sugar and reduce your weight and specifically waist size.

You do not need to be destined to a life of ill-health if you have these risk factors or diagnosis. Many have changed their destiny by making the right changes and you can too.

Times are changing, this meant as a humorous slide but actually this is the scary reality the human race has evolved into to.

The consequence of our modern lifestyle - the food we eat and the way we live is having a devastating effect on the health of our bodies.

Most of conditions we suffer from throughout our lives are a direct consequence of this.

I came into coaching after my mother’s death from terminal cancer during which time I saw the astonishing benefits of nutrition on the body, even when it has been given a end date. The changes for her came too late but I don’t want that to happen to anyone else and so I am here to help you make the changes that matter.

If your GP has told you you need to reduce your blood pressure, lower your blood sugar or lose weight to reduce your risk of chronic illness - know this - you CAN change the path of your life.
