Today we’re celebrating the incredible impact of Social Prescribing and the people who make it happen 💚

Social Prescribers play a vital role in supporting our patients beyond medical care — helping people connect with community groups, activities, and services that improve wellbeing, reduce isolation, and support mental and physical health.

Whether it’s finding support for loneliness, help with finances, access to exercise groups, or simply someone to talk to — Social Prescribers are here to listen and guide.

Olivia and Katie are our lovely Social Prescribing link workers, and they cover the 6 sites at East Durham Medical Group.

On tonight's episode of Emmerdale, Cain Di**le (played by Jeff Hordley) attended surgery school to learn what will happen after his prostate is removed (prostatectomy).

There, he met another man diagnosed with prostate cancer who affected Cain with his bleak worldview.

Men respond in all kinds of ways to being diagnosed and living with prostate cancer. It can be hard to deal with emotionally as well as physically and can affect how you feel.

If you are feeling down or worried and are finding it hard to deal with things, there are treatments and support available.

💉 COVID Spring Booster Campaign 2026 💉

COVID-19 is still with us, and for those at higher risk, a “booster” dose helps top up your protection.

This years spring booster campaign starts on13th April 2026.

Eligiblity criteria:

▪️Adults aged 75 and over
▪️Residents in care homes for older people
▪️Individuals aged 6 months and over who are
immunosuppressed

We have appointments available at our 6 sites for eligible patients starting Thursday 16th April. Eligible patients will receive a text message allowing them to self book into the clinics but you can also call the Practice to book an appointment today !

⚠️Ordering cut off date is Monday 30th March to allow 48 hours for your prescription to be processed by Practice and Pharmacy teams⚠️

GP practices and most pharmacies will be closed on Good Friday (3rd April) and Easter Monday (6th April), so plan ahead to avoid running out of essential medication.

Information on where to find our social prescribing link workers around the community 🩵

Hi everyone 👋 just an update regarding what's on and where to find us 📍

Wingate Community Centre - SPLW Drop in 2nd and last Monday of the month (starting March 9th) for non-clinical advice. Also includes free breakfast, games, advice regarding health and nutrition from CRT Hub House, advice from Credit Union, access to a gym and free chair exercise class at 11am every Monday.

Peterlee Methodist Church Hall - coffee morning every Tuesday between 10am-12pm. SPLW's available from different practices every week, even if EDMG SPLW's are not available, you can still get advice from another SPLW who can pass any information onto us. DASH drop in (housing & finance advice) also there between 10am-12pm.

Wheatley Hill Greenhills Centre - SPLW drop in last Wednesday of the month (starting February 25th) between 10am-12pm. Non clinical advice from our SPLW's. Also Bread & Butter Thing is held on this day where you pay £8.50 and get a full weeks food shopping!

Roseby Road Community Centre, Horden - SPLW coffee morning every Thursday between 10am-12pm. Free breakfast, teas/coffees, activities, bingo, quizzes, and a good chat with each other! There is also private rooms if you require any advice from a SPLW regarding non-clinical needs.
