A scoreline that is maybe a bit flattering this rainy windy morning at Dalziel Park, as Fir Park were the more comfortable side for large parts of the game, going in 1 nil up at half time.
As planned, we switched to an entirely different XI for the second half, and Fir Park soon doubled their lead around the hour mark.
Then came the fightback. Shaun grabbed his first goal for the club, a brilliant moment considering the injuries he has battled through, finishing smartly from a scrappy corner to make it 2–1.
Another corner led to our equaliser, as Coops was bundled over in the box and dusted himself down to slot home the penalty.
The winning moment came from Kieran Dolan, who stepped up and curled a sumptuous free kick from the edge of the box, top corner, no chance for the keeper. When asked about it after the game, he summed it up perfectly: “else can ye dae?”
Our extra bodies definitely played a part as tiredness crept in, helping us take control in the final stages.
A great spirited game played in the right way, and hopefully the start of a good local friendship between both clubs going forward.
