Neil's Cyclathon To raise money for Helen's Fund I'm going to see how many miles I can cycle in September. Please sponsor me on a per mile basis. Details in the About page.

My sister in-law Helen Davies has been fighting cancer for years and has now been turned down twice for a drug by NHS Wales that will help to prolong her life despite the recommendation of her oncologist. The drug is available in England but not in Wales where she lives. Helen's Fund has been set up to try and raise the eye watering sum of £90,000 to buy the drug she needs and to provide financial support to the family after Ian (her husband and my brother-in-law) had a massive stroke earlier this year. To support Helen's Fund, I'm going to try and cycle as many miles as I can in the month of September 2015. I'd like people to sponsor me on a 'per mile' basis to give me the motivation to keep going. Please just email me or post your pledge per mile here. To give you some idea, I've been cycling about 120 miles a month so far this year. If I do less than 500 in September I'll be disappointed, if I do more than 750 I'll be amazed (and knackered). If you want to cap your pledge, just say so! I'll keep this page up to date with statistics and routes and photos from my rides. Thanks for all your support for Helen.

Day 30 - Final day of the Cyclathon and also Day 3 of The Five Counties Challenge. Feeling a tad tired but chuffed that I've managed to do more than expected and also that, with your help, have managed to raise a decent chunk of money for Helen's Fund. Early indications show that I have well over £2,000 pledged given the miles I've done.

So today, after a hearty breakfast I set off back towards home. The trouble was that I was heading from West to East, whilst the wind was heading from East to West. Not a great combination!! The last 20 miles or so were hard going!

Miles today: 64.9
Miles this tour: 212.9
Miles this month: 865.7
Estimated ride time this month: 58 hours

The counties that I travelled through over the past 3 days were: Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire & Wiltshire and then back through Oxfordshire.

I've really enjoyed getting out and about on the bike, particularly the longer tours. I've seen parts of the UK that I've never seen before and probably will never see again. Blessed by the weather gods all month I think as well!

Good fun, great cause.

Day 29 - and Day 2 of The Five Counties Challenge. Great ride today along a variety of roads and surfaces. Quite a lot of towpaths which, whilst generally flat, can exact a toll on the nether regions!

Broke through the 750 mile target for the month and I still have to get home. Currently holed up at a nice village pub with rooms. What's not to like!

Back home tomorrow which should get me to the 200 miles over the three days and around 850 in total for the month.

Miles today: 77.1
Miles this tour: 148.0
Miles this month: 800.8
