I set myself a challenge to run 100km in March. Delighted to have completed it but at what cost? Having only started running again consistently in January I have tried to gradually increase my distance to build resilience and minimise injury risk.

However, I had a ‘bad’ week in the middle of March which meant I had to significantly increase my load to make up the distance. Research shows these sudden spikes in load significantly increases the risk of injury in the following 4 weeks. I certainly have some niggles but with appropriate loading should be able to manage my way out of them.
