Halloween can be a fun time for families, but for some older or vulnerable people, it might feel a little unsettling. Whether you’d prefer a quiet evening or want to join in safely, here are a few simple ways to feel more comfortable:

🚪Only answer the door if you feel okay to do so. Keep a light on, use a door chain or spy hole, and trust your instincts.
👻 Look out for who’s knocking. Trick-or-treaters are usually children with adults nearby. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s okay not to answer.
📜 Not taking part this year? A friendly sign on your door can let visitors know you’re not joining in.
🕯️ Keep things calm indoors. Closing the curtains and keeping the TV or radio on can help soften outside noise and reduce anxiety.
🎃 Want to join in the fun? Pop a pumpkin or small light outside to show you’re happy to welcome trick-or-treaters. Keep a bowl of sweets nearby so you’re ready.

As part of Caremark’s national Care for a Wish initiative, our directors Richard and Emily were able to present the winners with their prize. Our team had the special opportunity to nominate clients and to grant them a personal wish.

✨A huge congratulations to Jacki and Maurice!

Jacki and Maurice requested some time away to Ballycastle to enjoy the sea air! Our directors Richard and Emily were able to present them with their prize as we were able to send them to the beautiful Salthouse Hotel for 2 nights BnB and evening meals.

Your story has inspired us all, and it’s been such a privilege to make your wish come true.

A steam-powered wish come true 💙

Michael from Three Rivers fulfilled a lifelong dream - a day out on a steam train, thanks to Care for a Wish, our national campaign celebrating 20 years of Caremark. 🚂✨

Michael, who receives regular support from Caremark Three Rivers, was one of just 20 people across the UK selected to have a personal wish granted.

No longer able to maintain his model railway hobby or leave the house independently, Michael was accompanied by Care Assistants Louise and Melissa on a memorable trip to Leighton Buzzard Railway.

The experience included a specially organised taxi, lunch at Number One Kitchen, and an afternoon at the Autumn Steam Gala, complete with a heritage train journey and a visit to the gift shop.

Michael shared, “It was a fantastic day, and I really enjoyed myself."

This campaign is all about creating joy-filled experiences for the people we support - moments that make care truly special.
