💙 One of Our Own Needs Us — And So Does His Little Boy 💙
Across North Wales, Wrexham, Flintshire and Cheshire, many of you will know Sgt Dave “Smudge” Smith — not just as a police officer, but as a man who has spent his life protecting others.
Through North Wales Police, Wrexham Police FC, and countless community and charity projects, Dave has dedicated his career to keeping people safe, raising money for good causes, and supporting those who need help the most.
He has worn the uniform with pride, compassion and integrity.
Now, for the first time in his life, Dave needs us.
On Monday 19th January, at Broughton Shopping Park, Dave and his partner Siobhán watched their 7-month-old baby boy, Rupert, go into cardiac arrest.
Siobhán performed CPR on her own son until the Air Ambulance arrived and rushed him to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital.
Rupert survived — but the damage was devastating.
After prolonged and repeated seizures, Rupert has been left paralysed and diagnosed with Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood (AHC) — a rare and catastrophic neurological condition that causes seizures, paralysis, loss of speech and long-term brain injury.
This beautiful little boy should be learning to crawl and smile.
Instead, his family are now fighting for his future.
There is hope — but it lies in specialist treatment in the USA, which costs hundreds of thousands of pounds.
That is why Rupert’s family have launched Rupert’s Rainbow.
Dave has spent his entire career running towards danger for the public.
Now it’s time for the public, the blue-light family, local councils, businesses and our whole community to run towards him.
Please, if you can donate — even a few pounds — you will be helping give Rupert a chance at a life.
