Quality Time with Jean

It was lovely spending some quality time with Jean today as we tackled her beautiful jigsaw puzzle. Jean certainly likes to challenge herself — she never chooses an easy one! We made great progress, though, managing to complete most of the straight edges.

Conversation flowed as we tried piece after piece, and we were both rather pleased with what we managed to accomplish in such a short space of time. Jean has been left with the challenge of finishing the remaining edge pieces before Lorraine’s next visit in a few days… we’ll see how she gets on!

🐴 A Magical Visit from Joe & Bugs! 🐴

There was so much excitement at Avocet House today as we welcomed back Joe and Bugs from Rainbow Dreaming! 💖

Animals always bring such joy to our residents, and having two adorable miniature ponies trotting around the home was a real treat. The lounge was packed — we even had to bring in extra chairs to fit everyone! 😄

Joe and Bugs were absolute stars 🌟, calmly making their way around to greet everyone. Their lovely handlers did a fantastic job, chatting with residents, sharing fun facts, and answering all sorts of questions.

And to make the day even more special, Joe popped into several bedrooms so that everyone could share in the experience — no one missed out! 💕

A huge thank you to Rainbow Dreaming for bringing so many smiles to Avocet House. We can’t wait to see you (and those gorgeous ponies!) again soon! 🥰🐎✨

International Happy Hour at Avocet House Care Home

International Happy Hour was celebrated in true style today at Avocet House Care Home! With a colourful drinks menu and a trolley laden with spirits, juices, wines, and more, there was something to suit every taste.

Our activities lady brought the fun to life — gathering groups of cheerful residents in the lounges and visiting bedrooms with the cocktail trolley, party hat, and plenty of enthusiasm. What began as a happy hour soon turned into a happy three hours… but who’s counting when everyone’s having such a good time?

The first floor proved to be full of party animals, with small groups coming together to enjoy drinks, laughter, and great conversation.

It was a wonderful way to mark this international day, and the residents’ feedback said it all — “When’s the next one?” and “Can we do this every week?” echoed through the home as glasses clinked and the drinks flowed.

It is with great thanks to Reverend Ian Evans for leading our beautiful Remembrance Day service today.

The lounge was filled as everyone gathered to pay their respects to those who have served our country. Reverend Ian led a heartfelt service with thoughtfully chosen hymns and readings. At 11am, we observed the two minutes’ silence, followed by a moving rendition of The Last Post on the trumpet — a poignant moment for reflection and remembrance.

We remember with gratitude and respect those who gave everything for our tomorrow.

Our residents’ hard work has truly made a big impact on our lounge window!

Their artwork came together beautifully to create a stunning display in remembrance of those who fought for our country. The stained-glass effect poppies look particularly striking — an idea we weren’t sure would work at first, but we are absolutely delighted with the final result.

A huge thank you to all our residents who took part in creating these wonderful pieces, and to our activity lady, Lorraine, for bringing everything together and designing such a meaningful display.

This afternoon our minds turned towards Remembrance Day. ❤️🌺

We brought out our arts and crafts boxes and got creative — making poppy wreaths, Remembrance posters, mindful colouring pieces, and even attempting some beautiful stained-glass-style poppies.

The finished creations will be proudly displayed throughout the home in time for our Remembrance Service, to be held here at Avocet House by our wonderful Reverend Ian Evans on Monday, November 11th at 10:30 a.m.

Everyone is warmly invited to join us as we take time to reflect and remember together. 🌺

This morning we gathered in our beautiful cinema room for a session of Pilates and armchair yoga. 🧘‍♀️🎥

Gentle stretches, coordination, and mindful breathing were the themes of the day. It’s amazing how easy it is to forget to breathe properly when focusing on the more complex coordination exercises — thankfully, our instructor was there to keep us on track!

After an hour-long session, everyone commented on how good they felt, with two members of the group saying they felt more energised and awake than they had in days.

A truly lovely and refreshing way to start the day! 🌞

We celebrated November 5th in sparkling style! 🎆✨

Armed with glow sticks in hand, we gathered to enjoy a wonderful virtual firework display, set to music that matched the bursts of colour beautifully. There were plenty of ooohs, aaahs, and wows as the show progressed — with toes tapping and smiles all around!

To complete the celebration, we sipped on sparkling apple juice and savoured the chocolate-coated fruits we’d made earlier in the day.

A truly lovely — and safe — way to enjoy Bonfire Night together! 🔥🎇

This morning we donned our aprons and got creative in the kitchen! 👩‍🍳🍫

Today’s delicious task was to make chocolate caramel–coated apples and bananas. While waiting for the chocolate to melt, we got busy chopping and slicing the fruit — and then came the fun part! Everyone enjoyed dipping the apples and bananas into the warm, silky chocolate until they were fully coated, before adding a colourful sprinkle topping.

Once finished, the treats were popped into the fridge to cool and set, ready to be enjoyed during our virtual firework display later in the day.

Of course, not everyone could wait that long — the traces of sumptuous Belgian chocolate left on a few smiling lips were a definite giveaway! 😄✨

Our Comedy Club brought the house down this week with another round of the fabulous Two Ronnies!

With snacks and drinks at the ready, laughter filled the room — and could even be heard down the corridor! Several residents were literally crying with laughter!

It’s such a joy to enjoy a cinematic atmosphere right here in the comfort of our home at Avocet House. Even more special is sharing those nostalgic moments and hearty laughs together with friends. 🎬😂
