Childhood vaccinations are one of the safest and most effective ways to protect children from serious diseases.

Vaccines help the immune system recognise and fight infections like measles, meningitis and whooping cough before they can cause harm. By keeping up to date with vaccinations, you are not only protecting your child but also helping protect vulnerable people in the wider community.

Without vaccination, children are at higher risk of serious illness, complications, hospitalisation and, in some cases, long-term health problems. Outbreaks of preventable diseases can spread more easily when vaccination rates drop.

Benefits of childhood vaccinations include:
โ€ข Protection against serious and potentially life-threatening diseases ๐Ÿ’‰๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ
โ€ข Reduced spread of infections in schools and communities ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโœจ
โ€ข Long-term protection and peace of mind ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒฟ
โ€ข Helping protect those who cannot be vaccinated โš ๏ธ๐Ÿ’›

Keeping vaccinations up to date is a simple step that can make a lifelong difference. ๐Ÿ’™โœจ

IBS Awareness Month highlights a common condition that can have a big impact on daily life.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) affects the digestive system and can cause a range of ongoing symptoms that may come and go.

Common symptoms include:
โ€ข Stomach pain or cramping, often relieved after going to the toilet ๐Ÿค•โœจ
โ€ข Bloating and excessive wind ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’™
โ€ข Diarrhoea, constipation or a mix of both ๐Ÿšฝโš ๏ธ
โ€ข Changes in bowel habits ๐Ÿ“Š๐Ÿฉบ

Symptoms can often be triggered by stress, certain foods or lifestyle factors. Managing IBS may involve dietary changes, staying active, reducing stress and understanding your triggers. If symptoms are persistent or worsening, itโ€™s important to speak to your GP to rule out other conditions. ๐Ÿ’™๐ŸŒฟโœจ

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men, and recognising symptoms early can make a real difference.

Symptoms may include difficulty p*eing, a weak flow, needing to p*e more often (especially at night), discomfort in the pelvic area or blood in urine/semen. If you notice changes, talk to your GP and tell them about any family history of cancer - not just immediate family, as broader history can help guide decisions about checks and referral.

Public figures like Sir Chris Hoy have also shared their cancer journeys to help raise awareness and encourage conversations about menโ€™s health. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿฉบโœจ

If youโ€™re unsure whether your child is due any vaccinations, please feel free to pop into reception or give us a call after any day 14:30 (please note MenB vaccinations are not available in general practice apart from as part of the newborn vaccination process). Weโ€™re always happy to check and make sure everything else is up to date.

The symptoms shown in the image can be a sign that urgent medical attention is needed, and itโ€™s best to head straight to A&E so you can be seen promptly. These situations canโ€™t be assessed at the practice or through 111.

Thank you for your understanding and for working with us to keep everyone well. ๐Ÿ’—

Childrenโ€™s dental health is an important part of overall wellbeing, and simple daily habits can help protect young teeth for life.

Drinks that are high in sugar and acidity can damage tooth enamel and increase the risk of decay. Encouraging water or milk, brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste, and regular dental check-ups can all support healthy smiles. Starting good oral health habits early can make a lasting difference. ๐Ÿฆท๐Ÿชฅ๐Ÿ’™โœจ

Oesophageal Cancer Awareness Month is a time to raise awareness of risk factors, symptoms and the importance of looking after your long-term health.

A family history of cancer, smoking, va**ng, poor diet and long-term acid reflux can all increase risk. Making positive lifestyle changes, such as stopping smoking or va**ng, can help reduce the risk of many cancers and improve overall health.

Knowing the signs and understanding risk factors can support earlier diagnosis and better outcomes. ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ๐Ÿฉบ๐Ÿ’™โœจ
