We held our first Yoga for Social Justice at the beginning of January and it was so beautiful! We discussed what it even means to practice yoga for social justice, we shared our difficult experiences of yoga as well as the times where it's helped our mental health and felt expansive. We surrounded our conversations with physical, energetic and mental practices taking time to embody the topic of yoga for social justice. We dreamt and imagined a world without injustice being guided by black feminist thinkers adrienne marie brown and Tricia Hersey.

Next month, on 8th February, we'll continue this conversation about what it means to practice yoga for liberation supported by practices, discussion and relaxation.

We’d love to invite you to our Spring Half Day Yoga Retreat on Saturday 14th March 1pm-5pm at Orchard Park Community Centre, Badger Paddock, Huntington, YO31 9EH.

For this retreat we’re exploring the theme: Collective Grief & Transformation. Spring is the season for growth and transformation, yet given global injustice and the hostile environment we are experiencing here in the UK, we also need space to grieve for the collective: grieving the lives that have been lost to countless ongoing genocides and the targeting of marginalised communities here in the UK. We need space to grieve the loss of what could have been if injustice never became our reality.

We are offering the chance for us to collectively contemplate and practice holding both the joy of Spring and our collective grief at the same time, pondering in what ways transformation could be a part of this story.

What to expect
- Asana practices: offered both on a chair, the mat or standing. If you would like to practice on a mat please bring one with you.
- Meditation, mudras, energy work and relaxation
- A creative workshop centering joy
- Community sharing circles centering care and safety
- Food, drinks and tea throughout the retreat that are in accordance with your dietary requirements.

For this retreat we are offering three price options. You can either choose one of the three options that best suits your affordability: £30, £50 or £70.
- £30 is our community rate
- £50 helps support us in offering our community price
- £70 helps sustain our 3 tiered pricing and the offering of free places for folks who cannot contribute financially.
Please note you do not receive anything more or less based on the option you choose. We honour that everyone has different access to financial resources and we strive to make this retreat as accessible as we can.

Happy sunday folks, I hope you are doing well. I woke up this morning with a deeply heavy heart about the goings on in the world and we had our sangha first thing. My emotions feeling like the weather on those days where we get a mix of storms, rains, sunshine, rainbows and wind.

With all these feelings we explored freedom. I think during times like these I feel resistant to dreaming and staying close to liberation. And yet I found that after both the creative practice of writing about freedom and sharing our thoughts in community together brought me to a place of balance. From this place of balance I know I can continue to show up in solidarity and be sustainable in my activism.

I am always reminded to never underestimate the magic of a sangha!!!!

This Sunday we have our monthly Teapot Sangha, you can join us whether you've been to many Teapot sessions or none at all. It's a chance to connect in community with folks who are practising yoga, healing, embodiment and spirituality more broadly to move the collective toward liberation and freedom.

Each week I drive to 3 nearby villages for chair yoga classes and they bring so much joy. We shared warm mince pies before christmas, wrote poems together, moved, meditated, built community and relaxed together.

It is a lot of driving on my end but to bring folks together to move and meditate in community means the world. If you or you know anyone who would be keen let me know and all questions & thoughts are welcome

We hold two live sessions per week: asana focused class with Charmaine and a meditation focused class with Amy with some space for community discussion and connection.

In last Sunday's session we did a mudra practice - first we held the mudra physically and then we released the mudra and visualised us holding the mudra - seeing if we can embody the essence without actually doing the movement.

During this meditation I just felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude that we were all practising the mudra at the same time. There's something so special and gets good energy flowing through my body when we practice in community. Do you ever feel this when practising in a collective?

Amy currently guides two in person classes in York:

Tuesdays 6:45-7:45pm for Strength & Stillness
Thursdays 11:30am-12:30pm for The Sitting Circle

The key difference between these classes is that on a Tuesday evening feel free to bring your mat with you to practice seated / lying down on the ground and on Thursdays during the day I only guide chair-based and standing movement.

For strength and stillness I usually include a longer meditation or energy work practice as well.

Both classes have meditation and breathing embedded as well as relaxation and softness throughout and at the end of class.
