I truly believe every great coach changes their mind (often!).

It’s an integral part of coaching.

Research emerges.
Experience grows.
You develop.

I’ve been in this industry 17 years.
I’ve probably believed everything at some point.

But this is where changing your mind becomes vital…

It’s allowed me to sharpen my skills and hone in on the most efficient and effective way to change people’s lives.

17 years ago, I wasn’t a very good coach. I was new to the industry, it’s normal.

17 years on, every time I’ve changed my mind I’ve become 1% better.

Be open to changing your mind, it’s how you grow.

Meet Sam ✨

She’s in her 40’s, she has a stressful job in the city and she has a family at home who rely on her.

She’s in the best shape of her life.

Visible abs.
Clear definition she’s never had before.

But this isn’t a “miracle transformation” story.

Before this, Sam was already training and trying harder than most.

She even worked with a Personal Trainer at her gym.

The problem wasn’t showing up.
The problem was return on investment.

She had that quiet frustration so many women in their 40s have:
“I know I’m capable of more than this.”

More structure.
More intent.
More results that actually matched the work she was putting in.

She decided to put her trust in me because she saw the results we were producing weekly with women like her.

Once the noise was stripped away, the focus became:

progressive, structured and science based training

clear standards, a complete mindset shift and strategy overhaul

non-negotiables she could execute with her food and habits, even when life was busy with work and the kids.

Her body responded exactly how it’s supposed to.

This is what happens when you stop settling for “good enough” and using age as your excuse.

Sam didn’t find time.
She didn’t find motivation.
She found a system that respected her capacity — and demanded more from it.

And that’s why this result isn’t surprising.

But let’s give actual context, rather than using instagram to make us feel liked and popular.

The amount of calories you need to eat to lose fat will vary wildly based on your genetic make up, s*x, activity, training level, height, history and many other things.

So the reality for Sarah who’s 5ft, has a sedentary job and can only train 3x per week might be pretty damning.

And those influencers who say “build up your metabolism” so you can diet on 2500 calories have absolutely no understanding about how the body works. If they did… they would know no amount of strength training or eating will significantly lift your metabolism.

If your metabolism got faster from eating more, nobody would get fat.

Let’s stop calling people out for being in a deficit. Yes you should spend a lot of time NOT in a deficit. But also, your deficit amount doesn’t define you, it’s just science 🤷🏻‍♂️

What happens when you’ve tried everything, but it hasn’t worked?

Well that’s where Susie was when we first met.

And it’s a familiar story for most of the women we work with.

But if I’ve learned something over the last 16 years of coaching, there is ALWAYS a solution and a route forwards.

Well quite simply: Susie was vulnerable enough to ask for help.

And that’s ok…

Telling people they should never tighten things up or cut back a little after a period of indulgence isn’t always helpful.

Some periods of your life are for over indulgence. The trade off is that others need to be the opposite.

It doesn’t have to be unhealthy or toxic.

It’s just “balance”.

Suggesting balance should be about always saying yes and never pulling back to be kind to yourself is exactly the reason you don’t get anywhere with your health and fitness goals.

I’ll add the extra context that instagram usually lacks. I’m talking about an extended period of time. Not just one off plan meal. You certainly don’t need to pull back after that.

Building muscle isn’t guesswork 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s actually easily measurable.

The problem is, most people spend years thinking they are building muscle because they attend the gym.

They aren’t.

Attending the gym doesn’t guarantee muscle growth. It’s just the prerequisite.
