Babies as young as 15 months show an awareness of what is fair and unfair.

Research has found that even before children can talk, they notice when resources are shared unevenly – and they often prefer situations where things are divided fairly.

This early sense of fairness is part of babies’ growing social understanding and empathy. It develops through everyday interactions, turn-taking, shared play and watching how adults respond to others.

Social development starts far earlier than we once thought 💛

Random Act of Kindness Week

Teaching out children to be kind to everyone is so important.

Being kind doesn't always mean going out of your way to do something for someone. It can be as simple as opening the door for someone. Give a compliment to an unexpected person or stranger. Give someone a smile.

When we demonstrate to little ones being kind to others, followed by an explanation to why we did it. We support their understanding about kindness and how good it feels for you as well as for them.

Our Junior class is bursting with themed activities - horses, sheep and ducks, dancing, musical instruments, phonics, colours and more!

Each session also includes everyone’s favourites: hoops, the parachute and bubbles.

🎯 Top Play Tips: Supporting Schemas Through Everyday Play

If your child loves doing the same thing over and over, they may be exploring a schema – a natural learning pattern that helps them understand how the world works.

Here are a few simple ways to support schematic play at home:

🟡 For throwing and dropping (projectile / trajectory)
Use soft balls, beanbags or rolled-up socks and aim into baskets or boxes. This keeps the learning while protecting your lampshades!

📦 For filling, emptying and hiding (containment / enclosing)
Offer boxes, bowls or bags and let your child post, tip and hide objects freely.

🚗 For moving things around (transporting)
Provide a small basket or trolley so items can be moved from place to place with purpose.

🔗 For joining and building (connecting)
Stacking cups, chunky puzzles or linking toys all support this urge safely.

The key is not to stop schemas, but to channel them into play that feels satisfying and safe.

We do this every week in Baby College classes, helping parents recognise what their child is learning and how to support it at home 💛

🎾 Why do children love throwing balls?

It’s not random – it’s learning.

Many babies and toddlers go through the projectile schema, where they are driven to throw, drop or push objects away from their bodies. Through this, they’re exploring:
✔️ cause and effect
✔️ distance and speed
✔️ how their body can influence the world

Balls are perfect for this stage because they move, roll, bounce and travel through space in exciting ways.

That’s why we use balls so intentionally in Baby College classes – to support natural learning urges in a safe, purposeful way.

Understanding schemas helps us see behaviour not as “messy” or “challenging”, but as development doing exactly what it should 💛

Babies start exercising their vestibular system before they’re even born.

In the womb, babies experience constant gentle movement as they are carried, rocked and shifted – swinging, rolling and even turning upside down as their parent moves. This early stimulation helps lay the foundations for balance, coordination and body awareness.

After birth, babies still need plenty of safe, supportive movement to continue developing this vital sensory system – which is why rocking, rolling and movement play are so important in the early months.

It’s not “extra” – it’s how babies’ brains expect to grow 💛
