Rural women embody a trillion-dollar investment opportunity. As the backbone of rural economies, women play pivotal roles as farmers, entrepreneurs, and leaders. Nevertheless, they continue to confront significant structural barriers to land ownership, finance, and markets.

Women make up 41% of the global agrifood workforce, contributing across the entire value chain from production to processing and marketing.

Yet, less than 15% of global landholders are women, restricting their ability to fully participate in and benefit from rural economic growth. Closing these gaps is not only a matter of equality but also a powerful economic opportunity.

Evidence shows that investing in rural women could raise incomes for 58 million people and strengthen resilience for 235 million more.

On International Women’s Day, the message is clear: investing in rural women strengthens food systems, economies, and global resilience.

Today, the Chief Executive of the Ghana Cocoa Board, Dr. Randy Abbey, together with top management, engaged members of the Council of State to deliberate on key policies and strategic reforms to secure the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa sector.

Dr. Abbey highlighted the limitations of the current cocoa collateralization model, noting that it does not sufficiently promote local value addition. He underscored the urgency of implementing a new, sustainable financing framework to ensure greater equity and resilience across the cocoa value chain.

The Chief Executive also reaffirmed his commitment to advancing comprehensive sector reforms in alignment with the President’s vision for a stronger and more sustainable cocoa industry.
