Venture Capital Trust Fund Venture Capital Trust Fund is a Government of Ghana backed private equity initiative, which was established by the enactment of the VCTF Act 2004 Act 680

Venture Capital Trust Fund (“VCTF” or, the “Trust Fund”) is a Government of Ghana backed private equity initiative, which was established by the enactment of the Venture Capital Trust Fund Act 2004 (Act 680). In practice, the Trust Fund is a fund of funds and operates through venture capital finance companies (VCFCs). VCTF’s Board of Trustees with the enduring support of the Government of Ghana, has through its investments, established a vibrant venture capital industry in Ghana. Today, the Industry provides much-needed long-term funds as well as technical support to enable SMEs grow and expand their operations thereby creating more jobs and increasing their contribution to Ghana’s economic progress. In addition to this, VCTF has been at the forefront of entrepreneurship development in Ghana having established Ghana’s first Angel Investor Network in 2011 to provide financial and mentoring support to young entrepreneurs and start-up businesses. Since 2006, the Trust Fund has partnered with various private sector institutions and international DFIs to establish five funds with more than US$57 million in total in committed capital. To date, more than US$16 million has been invested in 46 SMEs across various sectors of the Ghanaian economy. The Trust Fund is a major player in Ghana’s agricultural sector through its agricultural value chain financing of cereals and grains for the poultry, livestock and brewery industries having disbursed US$3.5 million to key actors of the agricultural commodity value chain.

VCTF Signs MoU with the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat to Support SME Scale and Productivity.

The Venture Capital Trust Fund today formalised a strategic partnership with the 24-Hour Economy Secretariat through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening SME financing and accelerating Ghana’s productivity agenda.

This collaboration establishes a framework for coordinated ex*****on to support growth-stage enterprises aligned with the 24-Hour Economy vision.

The partnership will focus on structured investment solutions, strengthened investment readiness, and disciplined capital deployment to enable businesses to expand capacity, adopt automation, add shifts, and create sustainable jobs.

The 24-Hour Economy is fundamentally about productivity, competitiveness, and expanding opportunity.

Through this MoU, VCTF will leverage its experience in venture capital and private equity ecosystem development to support enterprises operating in priority sectors including agro-processing, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, technology-enabled services, and other essential industries.

VCTF held stakeholder discussions with the World Bank Group under the Joint Capital Markets Program (J-CAP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

As agreed with the Ministry of Finance and the SEC, the engagement formed part of scoping discussions toward a potential capital markets development program for Ghana, focused on unlocking more private sector financing through the capital market to support development outcomes across key sectors.

The Venture Capital Trust Fund (VCTF) recently engaged with the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) to strengthen collaboration on the Adwumawura Programme.

VCTF is proud to establish the Adwumawura Fund, dedicated to supporting high-impact businesses emerging from the programme.

This initiative is designed to increase access to finance, empowering entrepreneurs to grow sustainable businesses and create jobs for the youth of Ghana.

We remain committed to working closely with NEIP to drive innovation, strengthen enterprises, and support the growth of Ghana’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.

A delegation from the Venture Capital Trust Fund, led by our Chief Executive Officer, Michael Abbey, Esq., paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP).

The engagement provided an opportunity to discuss areas of collaboration aimed at supporting Ghana's economic growth agenda, particularly through SME development, capital mobilization, and alignment with the Government's economic diplomacy priorities.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of coordination among institutions to maximize impact across enterprise development initiatives.

During the meeting, VCTF shared insights from over two decades of supporting SMEs across key sectors and regions, combining patient capital with capacity building, job creation tracking, and sustainability-focused investment practices.

The conversation further explored opportunities to align future initiatives with national programs, including efforts to support productivity, innovation, and even growth.
