The guest speaker Dr. Erasmus Agongo delivered a presentation titled “Transformational Leadership in Health; Driving Results Through People and Systems.” His address highlighted strategic approaches to empowering health professionals, optimizing organizational systems, and achieving measurable outcomes through inspirational leadership.

The session transitioned into a questions and discussions segment where participants engaged in lively dialogue, exploring practical applications of Dr. Agongo’s concepts and addressing specific challenges faced by health leaders in their institutions.

I challenge every leader here to establish clear action plans, mentor emerging talent, and continuously evaluate the impact of your initiatives on patient care and organizational performance. Let us leverage the principles of transformational leadership to drive sustainable change and elevate our health systems to new heights", Dr. Robert Amesiya said.

The Greater Accra Regional Health Directorate launched the 2025 Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week at Shai-Osudoku District Hospital on November 18, 2025. The programme brought together stakeholders from the Shai-Osudoku Health Directorate, Doodwa Health Research Centre, the Police and Fire Service, Ghanata Senior High School, traditional authorities, as well as patients and staff of the hospital.

The Acting Medical Superintendent, Dr Alexander Adjei, in his welcome speech, spoke about the importance of the theme: “Act Now, Protect our Present, Secure our Future”. He emphasised the role of everyone in tackling the Anti Microbial Resistance (AMR) crisis through proper stewardship, community behavioural change, research, advocacy, and partnership.

The pharmacy unit highlighted the importance of health-seeking behaviours and clear medical communication in addressing AMR. Dr Edith Duah, Specialist Clinical Microbiologist, briefly explained the origins of antibiotics, the nature of AMR, and the roles of policy makers, health workers, and the community in finding solutions.

Dr Stephen Adase, Regional Chief Pharmacist, addressed AMR's burden and its impacts on individuals, communities, and the health system. He discussed how past successes can lead to overuse of antibiotics and associated safety issues. AMR affects humans, animals, and the environment, requiring a multidisciplinary approach. He recommended the establishment of community centres where expired drugs can be collected in conjunction with the FDA and brought to the hospital for safe disposal.

The Queen Mother of Dodowa, Numesi, Nana Ayerkie Yortsu III, spoke about community involvement in this fight and admonished the health workers not to be comfortable in the health facilities but to take this important issue and others to the communities.

The chairman of the occasion, Dr Kennedy Brightson, the Acting Director of Family Health at the Ghana Health Service, congratulated the region and the hospital for organising this programme. He emphasised the need for all stakeholders to join forces in implementing AMR policies, from the various health facilities to the communities.
