π Diabetes & Well-Being: Lessons from My Late Mother, Mrs. Viola Grace Afua Biaku π
As we mark World Diabetes Day 2025, I honour the life and legacy of my beloved mother, Mrs. Viola Grace Afua Biaku, who lived with diabetes for nearly 40 years β and lived fully.
She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a successful career woman. Her diagnosis never defined her β her choices did.
In her memory, we founded the Viola Diabetes Foundation β a living tribute to her strength, resilience, and unwavering commitment to self-care.
So how did she thrive?
β¨ She was open about her condition β no shame, no secrecy.
β¨ She prioritized her health with courage and consistency.
β¨ She took her medication faithfully and never missed her check-ups.
β¨ She stayed informed, always learning better ways to manage her condition.
β¨ Most of all, she practiced intentional self-care β physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Her life is proof that you can live well with diabetes.
To everyone living with diabetes:
The key is in your hands.
Choose knowledge. Choose support. Choose self-care.
You are not alone β and your life is still full of possibility.
