On 7th July 2025, the Asutifi North District Health Directorate convened a review meeting to assess the progress of Network of Practice (NoP) implementation within the district. The meeting brought together key stakeholders from various health facilities involved in the initiative.
The District Director of Health Services, Dr. Bryan A. Sienso, underscored the significance of the NoP initiative introduced by the Ghana Health Service (GHS). He commended participating facilities for their efforts so far and encouraged continuous commitment to ensure the initiative's success across all sub-districts.
The two designated Model Health Centres in the district; Gyedu Model Health Centre and Gambia Model Health Centre, provided updates on the status of NoP implementation at their respective sub-districts. They highlighted several key achievements attributed to the network, including: Improved availability of essential medicines and Enhanced coordination and service delivery.
Despite these gains, the centers reported some challenges, particularly the lack of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) accreditation for Over-the-Counter Medicine Sellers (OTCMS). This limitation was noted as a barrier to the full integration and participation of OTCMS in the NoP, thereby affecting service continuity at the community level.
The meeting concluded with a call for continued stakeholder engagement, targeted problem-solving, and strategic support to scale the implementation and improve access to quality healthcare within the district.

Training on Data Capturing and Reporting for Facility-Level Staff

Data accuracy, timeliness, and completeness remain critical indicators within the Ghana Health Service, as most operational and policy decisions are informed by data reported through the District Health Information Management System (DHIMS2). To enhance the capacity of facility-level staff in meeting these standards, the Asutifi North District Health Directorate conducted a two-day training workshop at Gambia and Goamu Koforidua sub-districts, respectively as part of the ongoing efforts to improve on data capture and quality within the district.

The training targeted health workers in all facilities within these subdistricts.

With the support of the District Director of Health Services, District officers, and program coordinators, the training sessions reviewed all relevant reporting forms assigned to each facility based on their level of operation. The forms were thoroughly discussed to ensure staff understood the requirements for accurate and timely data entry into DHIMS2. The training aimed to strengthen reporting practices and ultimately support improved decision-making and health service delivery.

Commemoration of World Hypertension Day at Gyedu Sub-district

World Hypertension Day is observed annually to raise awareness about the dangers of high blood pressure and to promote prevention, early detection, and control. Hypertension remains a leading cause of cardiovascular diseases and premature death worldwide. With its often symptomless progression, regular screening is critical for identifying individuals at risk and initiating timely interventions.

This year’s commemoration, held in May, was actively observed in the Gyedu Sub-district of the Asutifi North District. As part of the “Measure 1 Million” campaign, the sub-district health team carried out targeted community engagements, including blood pressure screening and education at churches, Gyamfi Kumanin Senior High School (SHS), and within the Ntotroso community. These efforts significantly contributed to raising awareness, promoting early detection, and encouraging healthier lifestyle choices among residents.

Commemoration of World Hypertension Day

Hypertension, known as the “silent killer,” affects over 1.3 billion people globally (WHO, 2024) and approximately 19.1% of adults in Ghana (STEPS, 2024), making it a significant public health concern.

In response, the Ghana Health Service and partners rolled out the “Measure 1 Million” campaign in the month of May to promote awareness and routine blood pressure checks.

In Asutifi North District, the campaign featured radio education and expanded screening efforts, including outreach to teachers during their Annual District Conference. In the Kenyasi sub-district, communities such as Kenyasi No.1 and Habitat were reached with support from staff of the Asutifi North District Hospital.
