It's here again.
It's World Breastfeeding Week, and at South Tongu District Hospital, one of the best primary health care facilities in Ghana, we are joining key stakeholders worldwide, like UNICEF, WABA, and WHO, to celebrate under the theme: PRIORITISING BREASTFEEDING; CREATING SUSTAINABLE BREASTFEEDING SUPPORT. One of the ways to do that is to create an environment that supports exclusive breastfeeding. As a Baby Friendly institution, STDH ensures early initiation of breastfeeding, rooming in, flexible working hours for staff who are nursing mothers, and an on-site ultramodern creche for their wards.
We look forward to providing breastfeeding booths, a breastmilk bank in the future, and sponsoring the training of lactation specialists.

Join us as we celebrate WBW with social media hype and a panel discussion on strengthening breastfeeding support in the facility among other activities.

Appeal For Support To Complete South Tongu District Hospital Physiotherapy Project

The South Tongu District Hospital is reaching out to our community and beyond for support to complete our Physiotherapy Facility, a critical project that will transform healthcare delivery in the Volta Region and beyond.

Why This Matters:
Our hospital serves five districts (Central Tongu, Ada, South Tongu, North Tongu, and Akatsi) and is the only facility offering physiotherapy services in the area. With the increasing number of patients—ranging from accident victims to children with birth abnormalities and elderly individuals recovering from falls—the need for a dedicated, fully equipped physiotherapy facility has never been more urgent.

Current Challenges:
The existing physiotherapy unit is overcrowded, sharing space with the Pediatric Ward, which creates unsafe and inefficient conditions for patients and staff. This limits our ability to provide the quality care our community deserves.
Progress So Far:
Construction of the new physiotherapy building began in 2018, and we’ve completed the foundation, walls, columns, and roofing. However, due to budgetary constraints, the project has stalled.

What We Need:
To complete the building and equip it with essential furniture and physiotherapy equipment, we require GH¢ 766,369.65 (approximately US$ 49,427.47).

How You Can Help:
Your donation will directly contribute to:
Completing the building (windows, doors, painting, electrical work, plumbing, etc.)
Furnishing the facility (tables, desks, chairs)
Procuring essential physiotherapy equipment
