✨ Today, TOLECGH had the privilege to participate in a High-Level Policy Dialogue on Unpaid Care Work for Carers of Children with Developmental Disabilities in Ghana! ✨

The dialogue was convened by Songtaba, in collaboration with The Center for Learning and Childhood Development (CLCD) and the Africa Center for Democracy and Socio-Economic Development (CDS-Africa). The focus was on Unpaid Care Work for Carers of Children with Developmental Disabilities (CWDDs) in Ghana and the implementation of the Inclusive Education Policy.

This important event forms part of an ongoing research and advocacy initiative funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC/CRDI). The initiative seeks to:
✅ Advance the scaling of the Inclusive Education Policy in Ghana.
✅ Address the disproportionate burden of unpaid care work—largely shouldered by women and girls who care for children with developmental disabilities.

While progress has been made in recognizing these challenges, there remains an urgent need for policies that recognize, value, and reduce unpaid care work.

The conference provided a platform to:
🔹 Present evidence on the financial, social, and psychological impacts of unpaid care work on families.
🔹 Co-develop practical, evidence-based policy recommendations to support carers and improve outcomes for children with developmental disabilities.
🔹 Foster alliances among stakeholders to ensure the sustainable adoption and implementation of supportive policies.

This initiative reflects a growing movement in Ghana and globally to build inclusive, gender-responsive care systems that truly leave no one behind. 🌍💙
