Today we observe International Childhood Cancer Day, a moment to honor the courage of young fighters, support their families, and raise awareness about cancers affecting children.

Globally, approximately 400,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year, yet there is profound hope: with early detection and appropriate treatment, the majority of childhood cancers are curable.

At Habana Medical Service, we are deeply committed to providing compassionate, expert care for every child who walks through our doors. We stand with families during challenging times and believe that no child should face illness alone.

Let's come together as a community to protect our children, share knowledge, offer support, and spread hope. Every child deserves a healthy future and together, we can help make that possible.

At Habana Medical Service, we offer gentle and effective scaling and polishing to keep your teeth clean, healthy, and confident.

Our process starts with a careful dental examination to assess plaque, tartar buildup, and gum health. Using modern dental instruments, we professionally remove hardened deposits that regular brushing cannot eliminate. We then polish your teeth to smooth the surfaces, helping to reduce stains and slow down future plaque buildup—all done comfortably and safely.
Beyond the procedure, we guide you on proper oral hygiene practices and schedule follow-ups when needed to help maintain long-lasting results and healthy gums.

Visit us at Nanton Road (Block 141, North Kanvilli, Opposite School of Hygiene, Tamale) or call 0233186766 to book your appointment.

A cleaner mouth. Healthier gums. A brighter smile.

What Causes Cancer?

Cancer rarely has a single cause; instead, it often results from a combination of factors that interact over time. Genetic inheritance can play a role. Some individuals inherit gene mutations that increase susceptibility.

Certain infections also contribute significantly: the human papillomavirus (HPV) is linked to cervical and other cancers, while hepatitis B virus (HBV) can lead to liver cancer both of which can be prevented with vaccination.

Environmental exposures such as ultraviolet radiation from the sun or harmful chemicals like to***co smoke can damage DNA and trigger abnormal cell growth.

Lifestyle choices matter greatly too: smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, poor diet, and obesity are all associated with higher cancer risk.

Age and occupational hazards like asbestos exposure further influence susceptibility. While having one or more risk factors doesn't guarantee cancer will develop, making informed choices such as avoiding to***co, limiting alcohol, eating well, staying active, and protecting your skin can significantly reduce your risk.

Today marks World Cancer Day, a powerful global initiative observed every February 4th to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote action against cancer.

At Habana Medical Service, we stand in solidarity with patients, survivors, caregivers, and healthcare workers around the world who are united in this fight. This day reminds us that while cancer is a formidable challenge, knowledge, prevention, and compassion can change outcomes.

Let's use this moment to learn together, uplift those affected, and reaffirm our commitment to a future where fewer lives are lost to this disease. Together, we are stronger.

This February, we're dedicating our focus to cancer education because understanding this disease is the first step toward prevention and early action.

Cancer develops when cells in the body begin to grow uncontrollably, often forming masses known as tumors. While some tumors are benign (remaining localized and typically harmless), malignant tumors can invade nearby tissues and, in more advanced stages, spread to distant parts of the body through a process called metastasis.

In Ghana, the cancer landscape varies by gender: cervical and breast cancers are most prevalent among women, while prostate and liver cancers affect men most frequently.

Over the coming weeks, we'll explore these common types in greater depth. Stay with us throughout the month as we share vital information to help you protect your health and that of your loved ones.

Treatment for cervical cancer depends on how early the disease is detected.

In some cases, surgery may be used to remove affected tissue. In other cases, radiation therapy may be needed to destroy cancer cells. Chemotherapy uses special medicines to help fight cancer cells in the body.

At Habana Medical Service, treatment plans are tailored to each patient. Doctors explain every step clearly so patients understand what is happening and why.

Clear information helps reduce fear and confusion.

Some symptoms should never be ignored.
These include bleeding after sexual in*******se, bleeding between menstrual periods, pain in the lower abdomen or pelvis, and unusual vaginal discharge, especially if it smells bad.

These signs do not always mean cervical cancer, but they are warning signals from the body that something may be wrong.

If you notice any of these symptoms, please visit the hospital as soon as possible. Early action can prevent serious complications.

Some conditions and habits can increase a woman’s chance of developing cervical cancer. These are called risk factors.

Smoking introduces harmful chemicals into the body. These chemicals weaken the body’s natural ability to fight infections like HPV.

HIV weakens the immune system, making it harder for the body to clear HPV infections.

Having many pregnancies can put repeated stress on the cervix over time.

Having a risk factor does not mean someone will definitely get cervical cancer. It simply means screening becomes more important.

Early checks help prevent serious illness.
