In the vibrant heart of Accra, Akosua was renowned for her intelligence and boundless energy, a testament to the traditional Ghanaian breakfasts her grandmother prepared every morning. Every day, she started with a bowl of koko—fermented millet porridge—paired with freshly baked kose, and sometimes a handful rostered groundnuts. These meals were packed with nutrients, giving Akosua the strength and stamina she needed for school and her many activities.

One week, Akosua's grandmother had to leave town, and her busy mother turned to commercial breakfast cereals. At first, Akosua enjoyed the colorful boxes and sugary tastes, but soon she began to feel tired and unfocused by mid-morning.

"What's wrong, Akosua?" her teacher, Miss Efua, asked when she noticed her struggling to stay awake in class.

Akosua explained her new breakfast routine, and Miss Efua frowned. "Those cereals are low in nutrients and full of sugar. They give you a quick boost but leave you feeling empty soon after."

Determined to maintain her energy and focus, Akosua decided to take control of her nutrition. She visited the local market, picking up millet, beans, and groundnuts. With a bit of trial and error, she managed to prepare her beloved koko and kose. By the time her grandmother returned, she found Akosua confidently cooking in the kitchen.

Her grandmother smiled, pride shining in her eyes. "You see, Akosua, our traditional foods are made with love and wisdom. They are our strength."

From then on, Akosua never strayed from her roots, understanding the importance of a high-density nutrient breakfast. She encouraged her friends to embrace their heritage foods, sharing recipes and tips. Akosua's mornings were filled with energy and clarity, a true testament to the power of Ghanaian cuisine. She became an advocate for nutritious traditional breakfasts, empowering other girls to fuel their bodies with the rich, nourishing foods of their culture.

In choosing health and heritage, Akosua not only thrived but also inspired a wave of young women to embrace their strength and potential through the wisdom of their ancestors.

SHOULD MOTHERS DO EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING?

Many women/parents do asked, why should I do exclusive breastfeed?
I hope this write up will be of benefits for all.
Breast milk stands as the gold standard for infant nutrition, offering a myriad of benefits that contribute significantly to a child’s health, growth, and development during the crucial early months of life.

Firstly, breast milk is nutritionally superior, providing the ideal balance of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals tailored specifically to meet the needs of growing infants. This optimal composition supports healthy growth and development, laying a strong foundation for lifelong health.

Beyond nutrition, breast milk plays a vital role in bolstering the infant's immune system. It contains antibodies, enzymes, and immune cells that help protect against infections and illnesses, reducing the risk of respiratory infections, ear infections, gastrointestinal issues, and more. This immune support is especially critical during infancy when the immune system is still developing.

Breastfeeding also fosters essential bonding and emotional connections between the mother and baby. The physical closeness, skin-to-skin contact, and eye contact during feeding sessions promote secure attachment and emotional well-being, contributing positively to the infant's overall development.

Long-term health benefits extend to both infants and mothers. Breastfed infants have lower rates of obesity, type 2 diabetes, asthma, allergies, and other chronic conditions later in life. For mothers, breastfeeding reduces the risk of breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and type 2 diabetes, promoting maternal health and well-being.

Moreover, breastfeeding offers practical advantages such as convenience and cost-effectiveness. Breast milk is always available at the right temperature, requires no preparation, and reduces the need for sterilization of bottles and equipment. This convenience not only benefits mothers but also supports ongoing breastfeeding practices.

From an environmental standpoint, breastfeeding is sustainable and eco-friendly, producing no waste compared to the manufacturing, packaging, and disposal associated with formula feeding.

As breastfeeding is recommended, it's essential to understanding the unique benefits of breast milk underscores its importance in infant nutrition and overall well-being.

Take your diet seriously. Read what a study in Italy found.

"Specifically, adhering to a pre-conception Mediterranean diet that is low in carbohydrates and high in legumes, whole grains and green leafy vegetables, along with consuming 80% organic foods, was associated with improved testosterone levels and reduced s***m DNA fragmentation.”
