*CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER (CEO) END OF YEAR MESSAGE*

Dear Esteemed Members of UAFG,
As we come to the close of this year (2025), I pause with deep gratitude and pride to reflect on our collective journey as the United Abilities Foundation Gambia (UAFG).

This year tested our resolve, stretched our capacity, and demanded resilience—but you stood firm. Through commitment, sacrifice, and unity of purpose, we continued to amplify voices, champion inclusion, and uphold the dignity of persons with disabilities and vulnerable communities. Your dedication has proven that UAFG is not just an organization; it is a movement driven by purpose and compassion.

Though there were some issues here and there, I am immensely proud of the strength of our teamwork, the integrity of our leadership, and the passion with which each member serves. Every meeting attended, every outreach conducted, every voice raised for justice and inclusion has contributed meaningfully to our impact.

As we step into the new year, let us carry forward the lessons learned, the partnerships built, and the vision that binds us together. The road ahead calls for renewed commitment, strategic action, and unwavering belief in our mission.

Together, we will scale greater heights, deepen our impact, and continue to stand as a beacon of hope and empowerment.

On behalf of the leadership, I extend my sincere appreciation to every member, volunteer, partner, and supporter of UAFG. Your loyalty and service do not go unnoticed.

May the coming year (2026) bring growth, unity, and renewed strength to us all.

Thank you for believing.
Thank you for serving.
Thank you for standing for ability, dignity, and inclusion.

With respect and solidarity,
Chief Executive Officer & Founder (UAFG)

Government, Partners Commit to Inclusive Disaster Risk Management for Persons with Disabilities

By Essa B. Ceesay

Government officials, civil society advocates, and international development partners have pledged a major shift in disaster risk management, committing to prioritize the needs of persons with disabilities in national policies and emergency responses.

The commitment was made at the National Forum for Knowledge Exchange and Learning, organized by the Network Against Gender Based Violence (NGBV) in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Gambia Federation of the Disabled. Stakeholders at the forum emphasized that disability inclusion is a fundamental human right and must be central to disaster preparedness, response, and climate adaptation strategies.

The forum comes at a critical time as The Gambia faces increasing vulnerability to climate related hazards, particularly flooding. Participants highlighted that persons with disabilities are often disproportionately affected during disasters due to barriers in accessing early warning information, evacuation services, and post disaster recovery support.

Fallou Sowe, National Coordinator of NGBV, stressed the urgency of inclusive planning, noting that disability can affect anyone at any time. He called for comprehensive strategies that ensure persons with disabilities are fully integrated into disaster response mechanisms. He urged government institutions and community organizations to act decisively so that no one is left behind during emergencies.

Representing the Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Welfare, Principal Social Welfare Officer Modou Sumareh acknowledged the heightened risks faced by persons with disabilities during crises. Despite existing legal frameworks, he described full integration into disaster risk management as an urgent and unfinished commitment. He said the forum serves as a bridge from rhetoric to reality by promoting shared learning, best practices, and actionable policy recommendations.

Justice Muhammed Krubally, Chairperson of the Gambia Federation of the Disabled, reminded participants of the long standing neglect faced by persons with disabilities in disaster situations. He stated that they have often been considered last when it comes to evacuation and safety. He called on the government and stakeholders to fulfill their obligations by ensuring protection, inclusion, and meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in decision making processes.

The forum ended with a renewed commitment by all stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and mainstream disability inclusion across all disaster risk management frameworks in The Gambia.

TURNING VISION INTO ACTION

The UAFG Launches its first Capacity Building Training on the 7th December, 2025. The training aims at turning vision into action as UAFG Builds a Strong and Inclusive Tomorrow.

The United Abilities Foundation Gambia (UAFG), a young but dedicated organization committed to promoting the rights, dignity, and inclusion of persons with disabilities, proudly marked a historic milestone on Sunday 7th December, 2025.The UAFG successfully hosted its first-ever Capacity Building Training at Humanity First Hall, Kaw Junction— a day filled with learning, inspirations, and commitments.

We started the program with confidence and elegance under the guidance of *Amara Momoh,* who steered the event with smooth transitions and an engaging presence.
His leadership set a calm and unified tone for the entire program.

The CEO brought sincerity, humor, and inspiration to his address:

“Giving a speech is already challenging, but giving it while his mentor, Samba Batch, was sitting and listening beside him was quite challenging. It was another level of pressure," the CEO stated!

He reminded everyone that the training was not just about developing skills but about strengthening the team and reaffirming the UAFG’s mission.
As the training was about to start, Mr Barrrie, the CEO, said,

“The training is about building us—to lift people , protect their dignity, and give voice to the unheard.”

The Board Chairman delivered a powerful statement emphasizing teamwork, integrity, and the responsibility of building a strong and inclusive foundation:

“A strong organization is not built by titles, but by commitment, teamwork, and genuine service to humanity.”

His words established the seriousness and importance of the day.

Recognizing the UAFG’s commitment to gender parity, *Grace Yomba* delivered an inspiring message on youth engagement, balanced leadership, and the importance of giving young women a voice in advocacy.

Her contribution to the program was so great.

In the core session, Mr. Jaiteh opened hearts and minds by explaining the types of disabilities and the daily challenges people face.

His unforgettable statement echoed strongly:

“When we remove barriers, we open doors to dignity," said Mr Samba.

A powerful and emotional artistic moment came through *Binta Mbye* with her poem “A Seat for Everyone.”
Her performance painted a vivid picture of a society where everyone belongs; adding beauty and deep meaningful statement to the program.

*Mr. Alex A. Manneh* delivered a compelling session on ethical advocacy, media responsibility, and powerful storytelling.

“Let the media light, not a weapon," said Mr Manneh.

He urged participants to use communication as a tool for inclusion and truth.

*Yellie Bangura* led a thoughtful and inspiring recognition of the international day of Persons With Disabilities, stressing the importance of ongoing advocacy and understanding.

She reminded everyone that inclusion must not only be practiced daily, but it must also be celebrated yearly.

*Miss Rohey Bangura* delivered a deep lecture and transformative session on leadership, defining leaders as cultivators who nurture growth and steward change.

Her timeless message stood out:

“ *Leaders are born, and leaders are made* .”

She expertly tied all sessions together; highlighting how leadership, advocacy, and disability awareness intertwine.

The program concluded with heartfelt and inspiring words from *Mr. Yennie Junior Dangha,* a respected Board Member.

“When we stand together, learn together, and include everyone along the way, no mission is impossible," said Mr Dangha.

His closing remarks strengthened the spirits of teamwork, inclusion, and learning.

The day ended with a warm celebration and convivial discussion among participants. Moreover, certificates were issued out to participants as an appreciative symbol for their undented participations .
The smiles, applause, and pride in the room reflected the success and unity of the day.

I'm Alhaji S Barrie, an activist, a leader, and a believer of the dignity of every human being. I founded UAFG because I saw a gap , a silence and injustice in how society treats persons with disabilities. I refuse to stand by. Today, my work focuses on transforming mindsets, building opportunities, and ensuring that inclusion becomes a national culture rather than just a mare conversation.
