On the 27th of August 2025, a community engagement activity was held at Wassadou Village. The program was facilitated by Public Health Officers (PHOs) from Sintet Minor Health Center and Kalagi Minor Health Center, together with Village Health Workers (VHWs) from Jarrol District.
The main aim of the engagement was to sensitize the Wassadou community on pressing public health concerns such as;
• The Signs and symptoms, modes of transmission and preventive measures of Mpox,
• Environmental management and hygiene
• Birth registration
• Nutritional Surveillance of Under-fives
• Dangers of unsafe abortion

As a constitutional mandate and a commitment to our shared interests. WeTPHOA executives staged its first ever congress for the association. Under the dynamic leadership of Mr Alieu Daffeh, the congress serves as an avenue where executives bring to light all the activities conducted in their term, and thus finances. This was done through presentations by the respective executives; finance secretary, auditor general and the assistant secretary general of the association. Marking a transitional period, the Election committee headed by Fatou Jome commissioned an election process where executives where nominated and elected to be the next government of the Association.
Congratulations to Mr Alieu Daffeh and his team and wishing all the best to the incoming executives

🫡 There is an industry that spends over a million dollars an hour on advertising. And they are constantly looking for younger and newer customers. Do you know why? Because they know that their product kills up to half of its users.

🚬 We’re talking about the to***co industry.

*The to***co industry is well aware that their products kill around eight million people globally every year.*

♻️ To sustain their business, they must continuously recruit new users to replace those who die from using their products.

And because their products are so harmful, they must do everything they can to make them attractive, especially to young people.

Here’s how the to***co industry hooks you:

🍭 Flavors
🎁 Packaging
💋 Advertising

⚠️ To***co use harms nearly every organ of the body. It causes heart disease, respiratory conditions, and over 20 types of cancer, including lung cancer. To***co is a major risk factor for premature death.

🫶🏾 The good news is that the benefits of quitting can be felt almost immediately!

*Take action.*
*Quit to***co.*
*Unmask the appeal.*
*Expose the industry.*

Appealing flavours, but hidden dangers. Shameless manipulation of our children, for industry profit. Every day, to***co and ni****ne industries use carefully engineered products and deceptive tactics to hook a new generation of users and keep existing ones. Keep the industry out.

🙌🏽 Today is World Hand Hygiene Day.

❓ Did you know…

Healthcare-associated infections are one of the most common problems in healthcare, affecting about 1 in 10 patients on average.

🙌 Hand hygiene is a simple yet powerful way to prevent infections—stopping up to 50% of avoidable infections during healthcare.

Simple tips include:

🧼 Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
🖐️ Use alcohol-based hand rubs if water isn’t available.
🧤 Don’t rely on gloves alone—clean hands before and after glove use.
🍽️ Wash hands before eating and after using the restroom.
🏥 Poor hand hygiene leads to longer hospital stays, higher treatment costs, and avoidable deaths.
📢 Everyone has the right to safe care—stay informed and speak up for hand hygiene.

Clean hands save lives.

Learn more tips about a proper hand hygiene here ➡️

Medical gloves are used in healthcare and are defined as disposable gloves used during medical procedures. These gloves can get contaminated as easily as bare hands and do not protect 100%. When worn, gloves should be removed, for example, after touching a patient and hand hygiene performed immedia....

Week

🌏 From 24-30 April 2025, we celebrate *World Immunization Week* in The Gambia.

💉 Over the past 50 years, vaccines have saved at least 154 million lives globally. That’s equivalent to 6 lives saved every minute, every day, for five decades.

*We need to continue protecting:*
🍼 Babies from vaccine preventable diseases
👧🏾 young girls from HPV (cervical cancer)
🤰🏼 pregnant women from tetanus

⚠️ We are at a critical juncture in the history of global health. We are in a world where we have eradicated small pox and almost eradicated polio and with continuous effort of community awareness, we can make progress in eliminating diseases that can be prevented through vaccination such as Mealsles, Yellow fever, Meningitis, etc)

*World 🌎 Immunization Week 2025.*

🎉 Happy World Health Day 2025!

Today we kick off a year-long campaign on maternal and newborn health. The health of mothers and babies is the foundation of healthy families and communities, helping ensure hopeful futures for us all.

🥀 Each year, nearly 300,000 women die during pregnancy or childbirth, while over 2 million newborns die within their first month of life and another 2 million are stillborn.

The reality today:

⚠️ The vast majority of these deaths are preventable with timely and quality care.

⚠️ In many parts of the world, women still give birth without skilled health professionals or access to emergency care.

⚠️ 1 in 3 women report lasting health problems after childbirth - and struggle to access treatment.

How you can support:

🫶 Be present for pregnant women and new parents around you.
⚕️ Support WHO's efforts to improve global maternal and newborn care.
📣 Advocate for accessible, quality care, wherever you are.
