No van? No car? No problem!

For Free Shop Manager Anaïs, a short bike ride to Love Without Borders local is well worth it to pick up some toys for our families! She did cycle all the way to Athens from France after all! 🚴‍♀️🥵

Last week was a busy week for our team in Athens...

🍊 Isabel organised the deliveries of our bulk buy where we distributed food to 19 families in Athens! The food was distributed with the help from our friends over at .

🪑Isabel also spent the week running around Athens picking up donations of furniture which have gone into our flats. Donations such as these help the flats become homes to our families and we really appreciate them!

📦 Anais in the free shop had a busy week with three deliveries all coming in the same hour on Tuesday! We received deliveries from England, the Netherlands and individual donations from Greece! Alongside carefully organising the deliveries, Anais and her team of volunteers also distributed pampers and hygiene packs to almost 100 families this week!

📑 Our caseworkers have been busy helping our several new families settle into their homes, organising hospital visits and legal aid.

💄 The team also organised a ‘pamper session’ for the women’s space where everybody enjoyed the gifts of face masks and more from England!

We've all heard about Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but what about Giving Tuesday?

Starting from next Tuesday, all donations to our Big Give campaign will be matched, meaning your donation will have double the impact!

We're hoping to raise £2450 to make a wonderful total of £4,900 for living allowances for 6 of our single mums and their babies. Due to the closure of the ESTIA cash assistance program, this is the only financial support that our mums get. It'll support them accessing food and hygiene essentials, educational resources and more.

How can you get involved?
1. Set a reminder ⏰ The campaign goes live at 12pm on GivingTuesday. As soon as it goes lives we'll be accepting donations!
2. Spread the news 📣 Share this post and other posts during the campaign. The more people who see this, the more we can help!

One of our favourite things to do is to share with you that new families have joined CRIBS! This week we’ve helped some new faces move into their apartments. Mothers L & M and three children (One 3-year-old and 2 newborns) joined us yesterday. Both families have been in desperate need of housing and we’re grateful to have the space to house and support them.

We greeted both new families with food parcels, toys, fresh sheets and smiles from our caseworkers.

This is made possible by our amazing team on the ground in Athens and YOU! Thank you for the donations, fundraisers and support that allow us to provide shelter and support to mums such as these.

We’ve got exciting news for you! ⬇️⬇️⬇️

It’s 10 days until The Big Give Christmas Challenge!

This year our challenge is to raise £2,450 for cash assistance for our families. If we reach this target your donations will be DOUBLED - one donation, double the impact!

The final total of £4,900 will provide cash assistance for 6 of our single mums and their babies for 6 months. This small monthly allowance is the only financial support that our mums get, and it enables them to be independent in accessing food and hygiene essentials, educational resources, and public transport to get to appointments and classes. They are able to take back control of their lives and integrate into their community with autonomy.

Please keep a look out for our appeal which launches on Giving Tuesday - the 29th November, and be ready to chuck a few quid in if you are able to!

Let’s talk about ESTIA.

The Greek government has continued to evict refugees from their apartments following the termination of the ESTIA program. Families are losing their economic autonomy, their homes, and their access to a normal life following this decision.

Day 1 of Sally & Rach out and about in Athens! ✈️🇬🇷

Rach swaps veg box sorting in Mossley for food box sorting in Athens as her and Sally help to put together the monthly food parcels for 22 families 🙌🏼

Every month the team do a bulk buy of veg, food staples and household essentials like the all important laundry detergent, meaning they get things much cheaper and support local refugee friendly businesses while ensuring our families have what they need.

Isabel has this organised to a tee and thanks to volunteer Mollie too for stepping in to help! 💜

This Team Tuesday we introduce you to our new volunteer Mollie -

"Hi! I’m Mollie, I’m from the UK and I'm currently 1 week in to a 3 month stay in Athens!

My role is in the community hub. I will be putting on English classes, IT classes and CV writing sessions - plus other bits as the weeks go on!

Having spent some time working with charities that support refugees living in the UK, I began to learn more about the refugee crisis in Greece, the decisions being made by the government here and the organisations like CRIBS that exist.

As a foreign volunteer that speaks little Greek and can only commit to 3 months (due to new Brexit visa laws) I first had to ask myself some pretty difficult questions around whether my presence would truly be beneficial here. Now that a week has passed, I’ve met some incredible people and I’m so happy to contribute to CRIBS in any way that I can as the work that this organisation does is vital.

I’ve met some pretty incredible human beings and have left every day feeling inspired by their greatness, both in the families here and those working at CRIBS too!"

A big thanks to our extra helpers this week and Anaïs our Free Shop Manager - all doing a brilliant job in extremely hot weather! ☀️

Here are Ombeline and Rebekka, two volunteers from JRS Greece who came yesterday to help sort the bags of donations we got last week. 🙌🏾

And today we were joined by Yahia who helped with the winter stock-take so that we know what we need to stock up on for the winter! ❄️ It is strange to be thinking of winter in these temperatures but we must be prepared!

We hope everyone is coping with the heat wherever you may be in the world! 🥵

A MASSIVE thank you to those wonderful people who held a Birthday Fundraiser for their special day, raising a whopping £3,462 so far this year!! 🥳🥳

We are on course for beating last years total of £4,850! So who has a birthday coming up?? 🎂

Birthday fundraisers can be held via Facebook or Just Giving, or you can even collect the donations yourself and send them to us via a bank transfer 😊

Whether you manage to raise £10 or £1,000 it all helps us to continue our vital work with refugee mums and babies 💜

On Facebook look for the "Fundraisers" section and use the search bar to find us in the list! Facebook covers all fees so we get 100% of what you raise 🙌🏼

A big thank you to our extra helpers last week - hard working high-school students from Catalunya!

They lent a hand to assist the team with the bulk buy sorting and delivery of food parcels 🍎🍊 and then later in the week helped out in the free shop with sorting the winter stock .... In the middle of July 😅

It is a huge help having some extra hands to get through these tasks. 🙌💜

A huge thank you to Annette and PSZ Dusseldorf who have stepped in to cover costs for our big "bulk buy" that makes up the food parcels for our families. 🙏

As well as vital work with refugees in Germany, the organisation collects donations for refugees in Greece and have very kindly chosen to support us with this urgent need. 💜

This has provided food and essentials for one month for 20 families. Access to healthy food means our mums are able to breastfeed, and means no one is going hungry. It means they can focus on their babies and their futures, not empty bellies.
