Hello,
Suppose our pressure is normal. 110/70, 100/70, 90/60, things like that. And suddenly it goes up to 130/90, 140/100, 150/110 maybe. And it stays there for over two days (of course, we have to compare similar things, "proper" morning or afternoon measurements in the same conditions and hours). Most likely, then we have "Labile Hypertension," and we should consult our doctor.
If the above phenomenon occurs regularly, it can become more dangerous than if we had hypertension.
Labile Hypertension is mainly caused by stress. In addition, it can be caused by salt, caffeine, smoking, or other related factors. We can probably spot them and eliminate them if we monitor our pressure diligently. Are we watching it? Or will we start after the first stroke?
Cheers!

Hello,
Suppose we have 110/100 blood pressure. We do not have hypertension, right? Unfortunately, no. We have probably had heart failure.
The pulse pressure, i.e., the difference between systolic (top) and diastolic (bottom), should be about 40. We probably have a severe problem when it is lower and, more specifically, when it is less than ¼ (a quarter) of systolic.
Attention: there is always the possibility that we have not done the pressure measurement correctly or that our sphygmomanometer has a problem; let us not "die" before our time!
In the pattern "Narrow Pulse Pressure," we show a series of such pressures. It does not follow that this is the course of a person's pressure! These are examples to learn to recognize Narrow Pulse Pressure.
Cheers!

Hello,
We are starting a series of posts for blood pressure patterns to facilitate the perception of those interested in their blood pressure (or the BP of people they love and care about).
Today we show the "Wide Pulse Pressure." Pulse Pressure is the difference between Systolic Blood Pressure ("top") and Diastolic Pressure.
It is normally around 40 mmHg. As we get older, this difference widens mainly because our arteries stiffen. Know that Pulse Pressure has a better predictive value than other pressure measurements, and it is necessary to pay attention to it. In fact, if it exceeds 100, we probably have a lot of damage to our organs, and we are close to a heart attack or stroke.
Of course, we can prevent all this… if we measure now and then, we record and "study" our blood pressure, and we do not keep it a secret from our doctor!
Cheers!

Effective BP Log: Features & Benefits

Blood pressure: The wrong message.
If you have come across a message from the relevant bodies about blood pressure, you will have found that it is about fighting hypertension.
Of course, hypertension causes dozens of problems, from heart attacks to dementia. Measuring blood pressure, however, can show much more than evidence of hypertension (or hypotension).
Blood pressure is the only non-invasive and non-laboratory measurement that objectively attributes stress.
If you have an average of 110 systolic blood pressure, and it goes up to 130 and stays there for weeks, you may not be typically described as hypertensive, but this change is probably critical to your condition.
Similarly, if in the morning (for more than three days), you have 120 systolic blood pressure, and in the evening 100, you are typically within the "normal" blood pressure range. In fact, your health is in danger.
Our picture becomes even more accurate, although more complex when we consider both diastolic pressure and pulse pressure (the difference between systolic and diastolic pressure). If there is one thing you need to keep out of this post, it is that the pressure changes are even more critical than BP's absolute value.
We all need to measure our blood pressure because, on the one hand, we would control our health much better, and on the other hand, we could predict it further.
Finally, it would be worthwhile for blood pressure to become an (objective) indicator of the condition of nations. Think about it: if we had a change of 10 points in a country's (average) pressure in a few days, something dire would not happen to it?
Blood pressure is not just about the hypertensive. That is the wrong message. You better watch your BP. It is worth it. And you will find out!

Conductor of the orchestra: You!
As we grow older, our vital organs require better coordination, and it is worth managing them more skillfully. As conductors.
Beyond the similes, it is definitely worth checking our blood pressure (BP). And everyone would do it if they knew that fluctuations in BP help us not only to diagnose but also to predict our state of health.
To achieve the above, we need to record our BP as well as keep notes on factors that may affect it.
The Effective Blood Pressure Log contributes to this goal. With the main features that a month's measurements can be recorded on two facing pages and the diagrams it contains and you can fill in, this logbook gives you an unparalleled picture of your situation.
Please get to know it. And use it diligently. It can really give you life. Really.

Keeping notes is irreplaceable!
It costs to take notes. Time. That's why you pay attention to what you hold. You note things that have value, the ones that you should not forget. And already, by recording them, you store them more efficiently in your memory. And this helps you to draw better conclusions, to make better decisions.
The above also applies to your health. Here the notes have to do with what is most valuable to you. Especially the notes for your blood pressure will help you to control it better.
No doctor and no scientific book can replace you. They know the average physiology, the generality. But you have peculiarities. Things that are beneficial to others can be harmful to you. And vice versa.
What did you eat yesterday? Did you take aspirin? When did you start a drug? When did you have intense stress? Insomnia? Make notes of them.
In the Effective Blood Pressure Diary, we have provided space to take notes per day. Could you do it? It will give you life!

What blood pressure did Woodstock attendees have?
We will never know. And it does not matter. They did not have many or good home sphygmomanometers then. But today, we have. Wouldn't it be worth answering some questions?
What BP did you have before the lockdowns for the coronavirus? During that? After? Now?
If you were vaccinated against Covid 19, what BP did you have before you did it? After you did the first one? After the second? Now?
If you recovered from Covid-19, what was your BP before? During the illness? After? Now?
I keep hearing about symptoms, but most of them are not measurable. But the pressure is. And it can offer unparalleled information, firstly to you. Then, to all of us to know the effects of different cases.
Quantifying phenomena promotes knowledge and can save lives. On the contrary, the reference to sensations (headache, weakness, etc.) can create illusions and social panic.
Unfortunately, health professionals do not recommend blood pressure measuring to everyone but mainly focus on hypertension patients. They overlook the fact that blood pressure makes it possible to predict impending bad. They pay more attention to what damage it causes. It's sad.
But you have to start measuring your BP. And to record it; otherwise, you forget or do not form a correct view. So, what BP did you have before your vacations? During those? After? Now?

Tsimane is indigenous people living in Bolivia in villages of 20-30 families. They are mainly farmers, and in addition, they hunt and fish. Since the end of the last century, they have been the subject of many studies, especially because they do not develop heart problems similar to those of advanced societies as they grow older. Remarkably, their blood pressure rises much less than that of other people as they age. So high blood pressure is not a necessary problem. Most likely, if we recognize its causes, we will be able to keep it at satisfactory levels, providing unparalleled protection to our health. It is, therefore, worth studying it! (The photo is from https://www.tsimane.org/).

Worth knowing: Blood pressure drops in the afternoon and evening. If it does not decrease by at least 10% compared to the morning and even worse, if it increases, then you MAY have a kidney problem, diabetes, thyroid problem, nervous system disorder, or sleep apnea. It is worth noting. Pressure monitoring is also predictive. For all of us!
