STEP Health

“I Can Still Do It!” — Rebuilding Life After Stroke

Mr. Lee, 72, felt hopeless after a mild stroke left his right hand weak—he couldn’t even hold chopsticks.

Two months later, he can eat independently and even help his wife prepare vegetables.
Smiling, he says: “I can still do it!”

At STEP Health, we believe:
• Small steps can lead to big confidence
• Rehab doesn’t just happen in hospitals—home can be the best training ground

If you or your loved one are working to regain daily skills, we’d be happy to explore the best rehab solutions together.

Rehab Without Location Limits—Thanks to Technology

Traditionally, post-discharge monitoring relied on scheduled follow-ups or phone calls, which often failed to detect issues promptly.
Now, wearable cardiac monitoring devices are being trialled in Hong Kong hospitals, allowing real-time tracking of heart rate, rhythm, and blood pressure—data sent directly to hospital systems for timely intervention.

For older adults or those with mobility issues, this means:
• Fewer exhausting trips to clinics
• Earlier detection of abnormalities
• Health updates accessible to both healthcare teams and family members

At STEP Health, we’re exploring how such innovations can be integrated into occupational therapy to make rehab more flexible and life-friendly.
If you’d like to learn how these tools can support home-based health management, we’d love to talk.

STEP Health

Fall Prevention for Seniors Is More Than Watching Your Step

Many believe preventing falls is just about avoiding slippery floors, but health and environmental factors matter just as much.
Recently, during Hong Kong’s extreme heat, some seniors have fainted or lost balance due to dehydration, blood pressure changes, or fatigue—especially those with chronic conditions or mobility issues.

As occupational therapists, we help seniors by:
• Physical health: Simple balance and strength exercises to improve stability
• Daily habits: Staying hydrated and avoiding prolonged outdoor activities in strong sun
• Home environment: Installing grab bars, non-slip mats, and better lighting

Preventing falls is not just about “walking carefully” but about adjusting daily life as a whole.
If you’re concerned about the safety of an older family member, feel free to talk to us about ways to reduce risks.
