A great big vegetarian feast served on a banana leaf 🌱

🌿 What’s on the leaf?

A sadhya can have anywhere from 16 to 28+ dishes 🤯

Think creamy coconut curries, tangy yogurt sides, hearty lentil stew and sweet payasam for the grand ending! 🤌🤌

Fun fact 👉 Tradition says you start at the top left of the banana leaf and work your way across. I clearly did not. I was so impatient… I started eating before I could snap a pic AND before the sambar arrived! You know I was keen 🤭

I also had a proud wife moment. The servers came around with a spoon for Wayne 😂 He politely declined (in Malayalam!) and used his hands for the true experience ✨

For me, it depends on what I have and what I'm feeling. I started with a bed of lettuce. But this can easily be any kind of whole grain of choice, think soba, quinoa or brown rice.
[I did lettuce because there was leftovers from last night's dinner. thank goodness because I didn't feel like washing or chopping anything...truly been a lazy girl afternoon]

Top it off with an assortment of raw or roasted veggies
[I chose raw because its a scorcher today and I did not want to turn on the oven. All of those veggies were either cut yesterday, or over the weekend]

P R O T E I N: Your choice.
[I had leftover tofu]
[[After the first bite, I felt something was missing. I wanted a bit of a crunch and a boost of protein without having to cook. Not pictured here but I sprinkled on peanuts and pumpkin seeds]]

F A. T: Top up with avocado or olive oil +lemon juice dressing, whatever you fancy
[I had leftover sesame ginger with tahini dressing...I just discovered the recipe and I literally want to put it on everything]

Wayne and I met in the fall of 2015 at Acadia University. If you’re not familiar with the school, google it. It’s a beautiful campus (especially in the fall when everything looks dreamy).
Needless to say, this school holds a special place in our hearts.

Two years ago, we met Andre Lau, graduate of 1961 and Stephen Mak (‘89) at our first alumni gathering in Hong Kong.

Fun fact: Andre Lau met his wife, Lily at Acadia too! And they are still happily married. 🥰

Every so often we get together with graduates from universities from Atlantic Canada and it’s always a good time. The conversation flows (along with the wine 🍷), sharing memories from school, talking about how things have changed and catching everybody up on what’s been happening in our lives.
