🎉 HKUMAA 130 Mentorship Programme 5th Term (2025–2027) Inauguration Ceremony 🎉

The Inauguration Ceremony for the 5th Term of the HKUMAA 130 Mentorship Programme was held on 17 January 2026, bringing together over 130 mentors and mentees.

Professor Rosie Young, President of HKUMAA, opened the event with a warm welcome, followed by insights from Dr Libby Lee and Dr Kevin Lau, Co-Chairs of the Programme, who shared the Programme’s objectives, structure, and activities. Former mentees Dr Alex Lam (also a current mentor) and Dr Ivan Lo also shared their personal experiences and recommendations.

The ceremony concluded with a 45‑minute breakout session, giving mentors and mentees the chance to engage in meaningful small‑group conversations.

Established in 2017, the Programme facilitates knowledge exchange and fosters a professional network between young medical alumni and students with senior alumni. Now in its fifth cohort, the Programme has supported over 1,500 mentors and mentees to date.

HKUMAA hosted its 25th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and a Dinner Talk on 1 August 2025.

Let’s extend our deepest gratitude to our outgoing member of the Executive Committee, Dr Donald Li, and warm congratulations to our new member, Dr Annabel Choy! 🎉👏🏻

After the AGM, Professor Gilberto Leung, Director of the School of Clinical Medicine, neurosurgeon and Clinical Professor at HKU, delivered a captivating talk titled “Virchow, Michelin Guide & the Uberisation of Medicine”. Professor Leung shared insights on re-centering medicine within an ever-changing social context.

On 18 May 2025, about 60 medical alumni and their families enjoyed a day trip to Shenzhen, visiting Tencent Headquarters (騰訊總部) and the Qianhai Exhibition Center (前海展示廳).
The day began at Tencent HQ, showcasing their latest innovations, with Dr Alex Ng, President of Tencent Healthcare, shared insights on how AI is transforming healthcare across China. After a delicious lunch of Shunde cuisine, the group visited Qianhai Exhibition Center and learned about Qianhai’s rapid rise as a hub for startups and innovation in the Greater Bay Area.
It was a fantastic day of learning, discovery, and fun, providing new insights into Shenzhen’s growth as an innovation powerhouse.

✨ HKUMAA 25th Anniversary Dinner - “Our Silver Voyage”✨

We had an unforgettable evening at the HKUMAA 25th Anniversary Dinner - “Our Silver Voyage” on 18 October 2024 at the Orchid Room of the Hong Kong Golf Club, which brought together 31 esteemed guests who have been integral parts of HKUMAA’s journey, including past and present Executive Committee and Sub-Committee members.

From Dr Libby Lee’s inspiring speech to a nostalgic photo slideshow and a delightful four-course meal, it was a night filled with cherished memories. A special highlight was celebrating the birthday of our Founding President, Professor Rosie Young.

May we wish Professor Young good health and happiness, and HKUMAA more wonderful years ahead! 🎉🥂
