I’ve started filming my sessions so that my PT
can help unpick some bad habits to help my back/hip recovery.
When I looked back at this video all I saw was cellulite and fat wobbly bits. Instantly my thoughts went to dieting and how I could eliminate said wobbly bits.
Here’s the thing with getting a positive body image, the work is never done. You don’t become *fixed* by doing a few sessions but you can identify triggers and change your thinking.
I reconsidered my unhelpful thinking and reframed it.
Yes I may have cellulite, yes I may have wobbly bits but isn’t this also completely bloody normal?
Of course I can diet if I think it’ll make me feel better but will it? And at what cost?
Instead I decided to celebrate the fact that some of the workouts I’ve done this week I haven’t been able to do for a good year, that’s something to celebrate and thank my body for.
This is my body. With all the imperfections that go with it and I choose to embrace it rather than change it.
Some days it’s hard, especially if you’re highly self critical but it’s also immensely empowering to accept myself the way I am and not restrict my calories to try and fit in with societal norms.
Almost all people in all bodies have these thoughts from time to time and it’s completely normal BUT if these thoughts consume your day to day life and dieting isn’t helping perhaps something else needs to change?
