Pajzsmirigy alulműködés kezelése javitott az eldugult orron!
Treating hypothyroidism fixes nasal congestion.
100% gone in 1 month.
The researchers evaluated:
NOSE: a short questionnaire you fill out to say how blocked your nose feels and how much it bothers you. Bigger scores mean worse symptoms.
NOSE scores were perfect after one month; the participants reported no nasal congestion.
PNIF (Peak Nasal Inspiratory Flow): a quick breathing test with a small handheld meter. It measures the rate at which air flows in (in liters per minute). Higher numbers indicate a more open nose.
PNIF improved by 21% in men and 11% in women.
A 10-20% increase in airflow is sufficient to correct the problem.
The cause of congestion in hypothyroidism is probably the buildup of mucopolysaccharides in the nasal cavity, blocking airflow.
This is he same substance that gives hypothyroid people their bloated appearance, swells the digestive tissues causing constipation, and may be responsible for some cases of arthritis.
“Studies show that there is a relationship between Rhinitis and Nasal obstruction with hypothyroidism. Several clinical and experimental studies show the relationship between rhinitis, nasal obstruction, and hypothyroidism.
These studies have shown that the increase in TSH results in increased production of acid mucopolysaccharides, which in turn cause increases in blood pressure and edema in turbinates. Congestion in subcutaneous tissue and also hypertrophy of mucous glands are known to occur.”
The study used levothyroxine (T4), the storage form of thyroid hormone (T3). T4 improves things in very hypothyroid patients, but it is often not enough to completely resolve other hypothyroid symptoms. It’s a bit like giving dirty water to someone who is severely dehydrated.
For many people who are not extremely hypothyroid, improving thyroid hormone levels naturally can be beneficial for congestion. PMID: 37636771
