Did you know that wine headaches aren’t limited to people with migraines? Anyone can experience them!

Wine headaches are commonly triggered by dehydration, tannins, and certain wine compounds like histamines, sulfites, and quercetin, which can affect blood vessels or alcohol metabolism.

Choosing wines that are low in tannins, histamines, sulfites, and sugar, such as organic or minimally processed options, may help reduce the risk of getting a headache.

If you’re interested in learning more about wine and the types that are less likely to cause a headache, check out the article I was featured in with EveryDay Health. You can view it here: https://www.everydayhealth.com/headache/types-of-wines-that-dont-cause-headaches/.

In case you didn’t know, your brain doesn’t necessarily detect alternative sweeteners differently than actual sugar.

Although sugar alternatives like monk fruit and stevia differ from sugar in their calorie content, the brain primarily registers their intense sweetness, which can be harmful for individuals struggling with sugar addiction.

The bottom line is: The sweet taste is what is driving the addiction-like response. Staying away from sugar alternatives is going to be the best bet for someone in this situation.

How do you satisfy your sweet tooth without sending your blood sugar on a rollercoaster?

This is a question I get asked all the time!

Today, I am excited to partner with RxSugar to talk about their new product, Supercrose!

I absolutely love Supercrose because it looks like sugar, tastes look sugar, and even bakes like sugar—it is a great way to get the sweetness you want without the blood sugar changes!

I had the opportunity to discuss the question, “Is Sugar Addiction Dangerous,” on the ReThink Health Podcast with Dr. Autumn Smith.

Our discussion explores how the research demonstrates that sugar can be as addictive as drugs like co***ne.

My newest article with MSN points out how gas station he**in is often sheathed in colorful, kid‑friendly packaging and placed alongside packaged foods, which makes them nearly indistinguishable from the real thing.

When addictive products are designed to blend in, it’s no surprise they hook consumers.

This isn’t about personal choice—it’s more about an industry that exploits our brain’s reward systems.

Check out the link below for my take on gas station he**in.

Had an amazing few days in Hungary 🇭🇺 University of Gyor and my colleagues there made the trip! Highlights included a visit to a 1000 year old library, delish Hungarian food (including a lavender-lemon cake that I need to make at home), and so many sites and history. ❤️

“The conversation around GLP‑1 medications needs to shift.”

Instead of moralizing people’s choices, we should be focusing on what the science actually shows: GLP‑1s mimic a natural hormone that signals fullness and supports satiety.

Whenever individuals taking GLP-1s combine their efforts with adequate protein intake and resistance training, this medication can be an effective weight management tool in medical practice.

The 2025–2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans took a major step forward this cycle.

I was very happy to see our research on sugar addiction cited! Drawing on my research, and other existing literature on sugar addiction, the new Guidelines emphasize a “real food first” approach and call for significantly limiting added sugars in the diet to support metabolic health, reduce chronic disease risk, and curb the impact of ultra‑processed foods on the standard American diet.

It’s encouraging to see national policy acknowledge what the evidence has shown for years: excessive added sugar intake isn’t just a habit, it can drive powerful reward‑pathway responses that make moderate intake genuinely difficult.

Prioritizing whole foods and cutting back on both ultra‑processed products and added sugar isn’t about restriction—it’s a simple way to steady your energy and support better metabolic health long term.
