Stage two of fasting typically begins around day 3, when the body fully shifts from using glucose to burning fat through ketosis. At this stage, powerful processes called autolysis and autophagy activate - allowing the body to break down weakened, damaged, and dead tissue and recycle it into clean, functional proteins.

This is how deep cellular regeneration begins.

By day 3-4, the body becomes highly efficient at fat-burning and energy production.

What Really Happens When You Fast

Intermittent fasting isn’t just “skipping meals”… it gives your body time to heal.

After your last meal, your liver only stores about 12 hours of glucose.

Once that’s used up, the body shifts into ketosis and starts burning fat.

After several hours in ketosis, the body enters autophagy, where cells clean out damaged parts, excess sugars, insulin, and waste.

With longer fasting, the body can move into autolysis, where the immune system and macrophages begin breaking down things the body no longer needs - including cysts, lipomas, damaged tissue, and abnormal cells.
