Forgive / Let go of / be compassionate to past versions of yourself / younger versions of yourself that didn’t know better/knew better/that you feel shame or guilt about how they behaved. Reflect and move forward, holding space in kindness for them.

Do you want to change the way you talk to yourself, or how you treat yourself, or someone else? Change is possible at any age or stage. There things that make it more likely: 1) awareness of the behaviour, cognitive pattern or new skill you want to change/learn; 2) what’s my motivation for change? Write it down, review it lots and lots! 3) repetition - practice it over and over and over again.

Learn to observe your thoughts. Practice saying “I’m having the thought that .. “ this will help improve overall mental health by creating space between you and your thoughts.

The water in a river is never still, just as your thoughts and emotions are in constant motion. Be the river, gracefully accepting each moment as it comes, the odd packraft should you be lucky enough, allowing its waters to flow freely. What’s your favourite river?

Why wouldn’t ya?
We don’t see what people are going through, what they’ve been through. IMAGINE if we were kind to each other. Teach your little people to be kind to each other. The impact of unkindness flows far and deep and it hurts. Let’s shift this and let the kindness ripple out. 🫶

This is a technique from Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT). Once we can realise we are being critical, talking to ourselves negatively or being Coach Negative, I want you to stop, pause, and pop that voice on your shoulder/outside of your head. Say yo yourself “oh there’s that voice again/inner critic going off”. This externalises it from our self (defusion) and allows us space from it.

Hi all, its been awhile so thought I’d say hi. My names Amy and I’m a clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist. I’m based in Chch, NZ, though work with people all over the world. I have three busy boys, a dog, and a fish called Shiffy Mango who does barrel rolls on command.

I work with people of all ages, mostly adults and older adults, with all presentations though I tend towards trauma, eating disorders, substance/addiction issues.

I have a passion and goal to increase access to mental health therapies and this page is my first lil’ step. Watch this space people, I will make it more accessible and figure out a way to provide help to many more.

Please fire through any Qs, any ideas of what might help you (because it’ll help others). Yay! 🫶
