Just finished leading a mindfulness meditation session with a cohort of GP trainees.

How mindfulness can help them personally, help their patients , help them when in patient consultations and when dealing with other staff.

This training session runs annually and perfectionism always appears as a reoccurring theme in this demographic .

Mindfulness and perfectionism . Something to go down a rabbit hole with .

Maybe you have experience or thoughts on this ?

The book is recommended for those who want some guidance . It came with a CD of guided meditations when I bought it but not sure they are a thing anymore. 😀

STAFF WELLBEING DAY

Great to see our local GP practices coming together yesterday for a day of fun filled activities .

All the staff gathered to take part in some activities to boost health , relaxation and connection. Vitally important to keeping a healthy happy workforce especially in such stressful, busy and demanding roles

It was a pleasure to lead some yoga sessions and help them find some space amongst the busyness of the NHS to centre, ground , increase awareness in the present and relax.

I’ve really missed teaching yoga to teens and young people .
I am looking forward to sharing once again the power of rest , how to manage the nervous system and offering the opportunity to step out of stressful lives for a bit of time to look after the most important person in your life - YOU.

I know how hard it can be to relax and a lot of people think they cannot, it can be difficult I agree .
Just come as you are. No fancy anything required . Do as much or as little as you like. No pressure. No expectations.

We will learn how to use the breath for calm and run through some ideas to help with relaxation.
The session will end with a guided relaxation - you do nothing but get warm and comfy.

Open to all 11 +.
No need to book. Wednesday 8th November

How did i get here?....

I went looking for a yoga class to attend around twenty years ago. I was working in a busy job as a Mental Heatlh Nurse which I felt emotionally and psychologically and I was looking for a way of ‘switching off’ from my day job. It was quite hard to find a class all those years ago, my first teacher was 74 years old and inspirational, she taught in a community centre, she really believed yoga was for everybody. I noticed how I felt more relaxed after a class and how my sleep improved.

Yoga has been with me since then in one capacity or another and at varying levels of frequency. I became interested in teaching many years ago however the time wasn’t right. I was always completing training in my main profession and ended up training as a psychotherapist delivering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy within the NHS.

After some life events I made the decision to undertake my 200hr teacher training which I completed in January 2019. I trained with Evolve Yoga Training in Manchester under the guidance of Vicki Shields (who is a direct student of Sri OP Tiwari and also remains under the guidance of Paul Dallaghan), Donna Southwell (Mysore lineage level 2 authorisation from KPJAYI) , David Tilston (coach in movement, callisthenics, martial arts, yoga and anatomy ) and Kate Arthurs (sharing her knowledge of Samkhya philosophy and Ayurveda).

Yoga has helped to keep me steady and has given me support in challenging times. It has also improved my relationship with myself and how I relate to others, as well as a whole host of other health benefits which are well documented in the ever growing research.
