Extending legacy. Continuing future

Perpustakaan pusat UGM-Phase 1 ,
inbetween Romo mangunwijaya and alvar aalto. Using white, indirect lighting and warm wood panel, in reference to the harald herlin learning center. Contrasting with the heaviness of the precast panel from the exterior.

The extension itself will be subtly added and treated as a “linear void” from both of the existing volumetric masses.

Understanding human scale, in order to achieve it, we feel that, the best to do it , is yo exercise in designing single houses. and at afterward, to be expanded and tested to a much larger scale.

when Rem Koolhaas and OMA did the Villa dall’ava (1991), dutch house (1992) it was designed and constructed at the same time as Nexus world housing,Fukuoka, Utrecht educatorium , and Kunsthall Rotterdam. It shares the same drawing board timing.

All projects Different in scales, however, we can see the ideas of continuum through spaces, fragments of functions, and a blunt use of materiality.
It is something we would like to envision. Where The houses shares the ideas of publicness and the public realm space use the tactility and intimacy of a domestic spaces.

IFL Wanagama , Institute of future learning,
is an learning lab and working space for GadjahMada University (UGM) in area Of KIPP IKN . where only up to 20% of the land that can be used. The lesser the better. And In consists of several functions.

IKN it self, as we all know is problematic. with the current state, the condition that already been built, with all the pouring state funds., Made decisions that sacrifices a lot of things. and We ought to think, this should NOT be another wasted resources.

Another exploring propositions is, mid term possibilites to let the development to be come an educational township, precedent from Dublin, Boston, Oxford etc. An urban area that consists of several world class university and college. utlilizing the recently finished buildings. while maintaining close relationship to the Tri- City, Samarinda and Balikpapan.
While the overall policy making in politics and economic side need to be settled for a long run and to have a stronger foundations that built over time.

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, working an individual plot on a masterplan. The design meant to support international hospital and event ballroom in the vicinity.

Flexible programs and facilities that cater for short and long term stay, maintaining neutralities for international feel while introducing colours, scale, proportions to local and vernacular response.

SIKL - Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur, 2024-WIP

“Hanya ada satu negeri yang menjadi negeriku ia tumbuh dengan perbuatan dan perbuatan itu adalah perbuatanku.”

A quote from Rene De clercq , from 28 years Old Mohammad Hatta’s Plea at his Trial , Den Haag, titled “Indonesia Vrij” (Indonesia Free). History has taught us, our founding fathers, Hatta, Ali Sastroamidjojo, Syahrir, M. Nazir Pamoentjak, Iwa Koesoema, strengthen their bonds and sharpen their intellectual thinking for future Indonesia during their studies in The foreign land, Netherlands.

Putting a distance can put oneself on a different perspectives, thats what we imagined when we have the chance to design addition & alteration of Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur, the existing building, from the embassy sources, was once said, Soekarno visited the building on a diplomatic mission,

One thing for sure, SIKL has been a safe haven for all walks of life Indonesian living in Kuala Lumpur, documented, or undocumented. day time and weekdays, it served as formal school for primary and secondary students, and after the class ends it becomes place for socializing, training center even as temporary shelter.

The renovation has to be built in stages, due to the school has to keep operating. and of course has to follow DBKL regulations, where certain things from the existing was built without planning permission,

The overall process was unique and challenging, however, imagining the school premises will keep many Indonesians, students, professionals, even migrant workers feel close to their home, and will continue Hatta, and others founding father legacy to give and contribute, with their own hands, visions of new Indonesia, is something rewarding more than all the problems it brings.

Located in South Jakarta, on a busy street and direct access to MRT station, however due to nature of the development, the school will still highly dependent on private cars. Something that we need to think thru,
