An evening of sharing stories on how to balance ambition while living abroad in the Embassy of Ireland Great Britain with Irish Ambassador Martin Fraser and Chartered Accountant Ireland London Society, Digital Irish, London Irish Business Society, London Irish Lawyers Association and the Women’s Irish Network UK.
David Hardstaff of BCL Solicitors moderated a thoughtful conversation under the theme ’Without a Village’ How to survive, thrive and juggle it all, away from home. The panel spoke about how to navigate the balance of following ambitions in London and personal life when you don’t have the same support structures you may have at home.
Yvonne Maher Chief Growth Officer EMEA of Cognito & Chairperson of Women's Irish Network UK gave a brilliant analogy for balancing professional life while living away “if you have five pots on a stove top you don’t have them all boiling at once.” It’s possible to have it all just not at the same time.
Martina Redmond CFO of Terlos brought home the fact that you can build community and connect with people when living away by meeting and making time to attend events even when life feels more pressured “you can find the energy if you want to meet and be part of a community.”
While Kenneth O’Connor Co-Founder of ROA Talent made the point that fostering relationships is vital to career growth home and abroad “as time passes and people grow they gain the positions of influence in business.”
Thank you to Ambassador Fraser and his wife Deirdre as well as Aideen Cusack and the Team for welcoming us so warmly and for such kind hospitality.
