🌟CONGRATULATIONS TO TOMMY McMAHON 🌟
The Federation of Irish Sport is pleased to announce that Tommy McMahon has been named County Cavan’s 2025 recipient of the Volunteers in Sport Awards,
supported by the Sport Ireland National Network of 29 Local Sports Partnerships.
Tommy will be honoured at a special ceremony on Thursday, 26 February 2026, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Blanchardstown, alongside volunteers from every county in Ireland (including four from Dublin).
The event will include a keynote address from Minister Charlie McConalogue TD, Minister of State for Sport and Postal Policy, and the announcement of the prestigious Outstanding Achievement Award.
Tommy has spent decades quietly, consistently, and wholeheartedly giving his time to rowing and riverbased activities, both within local schools and far beyond them. His presence along the River Erne has become a cornerstone of community life.
His kindness, patience, and genuine understanding have shaped not only strong athletes, but confident, capable young people who carry the lessons of
teamwork, respect, and resilience long after they leave the boat.
Through countless hours spent mentoring, training, organising, and guiding, he has instilled in generations an appreciation for the river, nature, and the value of working together.
Tommy has been a tireless advocate for the River Erne and it’s many benefits, ensuring that young people can safely enjoy, learn from, and take pride in one of Belturbet’s greatest natural assets.
His efforts often unseen, never self-promoted have made a lasting impact on families, schools, and the wider community.
His volunteerism is rooted not in recognition, but in heart. And yet, his commitment has not gone unnoticed. He embodies what it means to serve: quietly, humbly, and with unwavering dedication.
