We work with and for disabled people to shape inclusive and empowering environments in tertiary education and employment. AHEAD is a national centre of expertise in inclusive practices for education & employment. AHEAD, is an independent non-profit organisation working to promote full access to and participation in further and higher education for students with disabilities and to enhance their employment prospects on graduation. AHEAD provides information to students and graduates with disabilities, teachers, guidance counsellors and parents on disability issues in education. AHEAD works with graduates and employers through the GET AHEAD Graduate Forum and the WAM Mentored Work Placement Programme. AHEAD coordinates LINK an Erasmus funded network of organisations promoting the inclusion of students & graduates with disabilities within the EU.

Do you work as an educator or support staff in further or higher education, including adult or community education? We're holding an online information session on April 23rd to update you on our employment projects which benefit students and graduates with disabilities.

The session will cover;

WAM Programme: AHEAD’s work placement programme for graduates with disabilities.

GetAHEAD Programme: GetAHEAD works to upskill graduates with disabilities through events, blogs and resources.

Building the Future: AHEAD’s annual careers event for students and graduates with disabilities taking place this year in Dublin City on May 27th.

Disclosing a disability at work can be daunting. Not sure where to start? Our next online workshop provides guidance and simple actionable steps to support navigating disclosure in the workplace.

When: Wednesday, 29th April from 12pm – 1pm

In this session we'll break down what disclosure actually means, why it’s such a personal decision, and how to think about it in the context of your rights, workplace conversations, and supports. The workshop includes practical tips and examples to help you think through your own situation, along with an overview of reasonable accommodations and your rights at work.

Signal boost! Share and help spread the word about our exciting event which serves as a dedicated space to explore, connect and share lived experiences with fellow learners and students with disabilities, Power of Disability! This is an event for students, by students run in partnership with Aontas na Mac Léinn in Éirinn. Coming up on Saturday April 11th our online programme will run from 10:30 to 13:30.

Guidewire are recruiting for an Employee Experience Intern for a 6 month duration.

The successful candidate will work on different projects across employee experience, inclusion & belonging, corporate volunteering, onboarding and internal communications. You’ll combine administrative capability with stakeholder engagement to build clarity, trust, and momentum across a global workforce.

The role will be based in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15 with hybrid working arrangements available.

AHEAD is looking for a Project Officer to support our employment programme for disabled graduates.

The WAM Project Officer will work with and support employers in the recruitment of WAM placements, build systems to manage disability in the workplace and to assess the support and workplace accommodation needs of graduates with disabilities throughout work placements.

Successful applicants will have a minimum 2 years experience in an administrative role or a relevant 3rd level qualification. We operate a hybrid model (1-2 days at our offices in Blackrock, the rest of the week from home).

Ready for Day 2 of the ALTITUDE Summit?! Our hybrid programme takes off from 9:30am and will include messages from AHEAD, a warm welcome from Dr Louise Callinan of the Higher Education Authority, a presentation from Dr Richard Healy contextualising the urgency of a national approach to universal design, an update on the ALTITUDE Charter and a celebration of new adopters. Then we'll split into different zones to hear contributions from across the tertiary education sector! In the afternoon we'll hear international perspectives from a consortium of seven European universities and organisations in Czech Republic, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Spain. We'll get an exploration of 3 AI tools with potential to support multiple means of engagement. And we'll hear from the Students with Disabilities Advisory Group (SwDAG) we co-chair with AMLÉ.

We're all set for the ALTITUDE Summit kicking off tomorrow morning 🌻 Registration is available for in-person attendees from 9am with a selection of tea, coffee and pasties available throughout the morning.

Our hybrid programme begins from 9:30am and will include messages from AHEAD, a warm welcome from Nessa White of Solas, rousing keynote addresses from Paul Harpur and Victoria Buchanan, a panel mixing discussion with presentations exploring ALTITUDE Charter adoption and implementation. Then we'll split into different zones to hear contributions from across the tertiary education sector!

We'll end with a drinks reception from 16:45. Enjoy beautiful views of Dublin and take the chance to connect with leaders, educators, and professional staff from Further Education and Training (FET) and Higher Education.

There are a small number of spaces for the in-person part of Power of Disability running from 10am to 4:30pm in RCSI, 118 Stephens Green in Dublin. AHEAD and AMLÉ staff will be there to meet you when you arrive. Unlimited spaces online via Zoom!
