The human body does not follow a single standard template. The numbers and structures we often learn in anatomy textbooks represent averages, not rules.
For example, the adult body is often said to contain 206 bones, yet the exact number can vary. The spine can also differ between individuals. While five lumbar vertebrae are typical, research has shown that a significant percentage of people have four or six lumbar vertebrae instead.
Joint structure can also vary. Differences in the orientation of the femoral neck relative to the shaft of the femur can influence how easily someone moves into positions such as Lotus Pose. For some students this shape may feel relatively accessible, while for others it may be structurally difficult or unrealistic regardless of practice.
Even muscles vary. Some people do not have muscles such as the pyramidalis or psoas minor, while others may have additional muscle heads.
These examples remind us that when a student cannot access a particular shape, it is not always about tightness, weakness, or lack of effort.
Sometimes it simply reflects their anatomy.
Understanding human variation can help yoga teachers move away from rigid alignment rules and toward teaching that is more adaptable, inclusive, and responsive to the individual in front of them.

I’ve been guiding students for over 18 years. I am certified in Hatha, Vinyasa , Yin yoga, Hot Flow, Yoga For Menopause. I teach private clients in the Wicklow/Kildare areas. I currently teach for Yoga Yard in Dublin, Westwood Gym and now I’m offering classes in Blessington on Monday Evenings in The Healers Dance and Wednesday mornings Ruth Shine’s School of Dance. I believe every body can practice and I tailor my classes with your abilities in mind. I hope you will join me and start/continue your yoga journey with me🙏

Thank you to all of you I have had the joy to teach! I will truly miss our Blessington yogi community. Until we find another option/space for our members, I can offer private lessons in your home if you want to keep up your practice.
As the new owner taking over the studio space does not align with my values, beliefs, morals and ethics as a yoga instructor and as a woman, my last classes will be Monday and Tuesday. Janine is offering a charity yoga class in support of .aid Wednesday Dec 17th 7:30pm🩷 Help her raise funds for this charity that helps so many women dealing with domestic abuse!

Yin is my absolute favourite form of yoga practice and I love guiding the classes. I always sleep better, feel better on every level. If you haven’t experienced Yin yoga before, definitely do! Be patient with yourself and feel the benefits.
