🎨 Beyond Just a Drawing: Seeing Brain Development in Action
At NDT Inishowen, we often use the 'Draw a Person' Test (Aston Index) to track a child’s progress. These aren't just doodles—they are "windows" into a child’s internal neurological map. 🧠✨
When a child’s physical "inner compass" is shaky, their whole world feels unstable.
Look at this incredible journey of an 8-year-old boy who started with NDT INISHOWEN last September:
🏃♂️ "The ground isn’t moving anymore."
In September, he was facing an uphill battle with balance, coordination, and the basic mechanics of literacy. Imagine trying to learn to read or write while feeling like the floor beneath you is constantly shifting.
When a child’s brain is working "double-time" just to keep them upright, there is very little energy left to process letters on a page. You can see it in his early drawing—the lack of a "body" reflects that lack of physical groundedness.
🌟 The Breakthrough
By March, the transformation is undeniable. Through the INPP programme, we've been integrating the primitive reflexes that govern his stability:
Physical Freedom: He can now run without the sensation of the ground moving beneath him!
Improved Literacy: His reading has taken a significant leap forward.
Legible Writing: His handwriting is now clear and easy to read. ✍️📖
Notice the March drawing: Look at the detail, the fingers, the hair, and the clear body structure. This is the visual proof of a brain that finally feels "at home" in its own body.
🛠️ The Journey Continues
We still have work to do, but with focused, individual support from NDTINISHOWEN, we are getting there. By stabilizing his physical world, we have unlocked his ability to learn and thrive. Onwards and upwards 😊
📞 Is your child "working too hard" just to stay balanced?
If your child struggles with coordination, reading, or feeling "unsteady," neurodevelopmental therapy could be the key to unlocking their potential.
