**Know the Symptoms of a Heart Attack**
Great to see the latest Irish Heart Attack Audit by NOCA. More awareness of the symptoms of a heart attack is vital for early access to medical care, only 45% of those surveyed called for help within 60 mins of the onset of symptoms.
If a person is experiencing:
⚠️Central chest pain/tightness
⚠️Pain radiating to the neck, jaw or arm
⚠️Shortness of breath
⚠️Nausea
⚠️ Sweating
☎️ Call 999 or 112 and ask for the Ambulance Service

The latest NOCA Heart Attack Audit is a clear call to action.🫀

Too many people in Ireland are still not getting lifesaving heart attack care quickly enough with fewer than half calling for help within an hour of symptom onset. Delays cost heart muscle, quality of life, and lives.

The report highlights urgent priorities that Croí strongly support:

• A national public awareness campaign so more people recognise heart attack symptoms early
• Faster access to emergency cardiac care, including timely ambulance response and direct transfer to PCI centres
• Continued investment in 24/7 specialist heart services, including regional expansion
• Stronger prevention efforts, especially in tackling smoking, a major risk factor, linked to heart attacks happening over a decade earlier

Every minute matters in a heart attack. We need faster care, better awareness, stronger prevention, and equitable access to specialist cardiac services across Ireland.

Croí will continue advocating for the changes needed to ensure every person has the best chance of surviving and recovering from a heart attack.

Thank you to Croí patient advocate and HSVI member Paula Connor, for sharing your story to highlight the lived experience and patient perspective.

📱 How to Set Up ICE (In Case of Emergency) on Your Phone

Did you know adding an ICE contact can help first responders reach your loved ones quickly if something happens to you and also gain important information regarding medications, allergies or medical conditions you may have.

🔎 Why You Should Do This
✅ Faster contact with your family in emergencies
✅ Helps Gardai, Paramedics, and hospitals get vital info
✅Works even if your phone is locked

Here’s how to set it up on both iPhone and Android.

🍎 For iPhone (iOS)
Set up through the Health app
1. Open the Health app.
2. Tap your profile picture in the top-right corner.
3. Select Medical ID → Edit.
4. Add important details (allergies, conditions, blood type, etc.).
5. Scroll down and add Emergency Contacts.
6. Make sure Show When Locked is enabled.
7. Tap Done.

How responders access it:
From the lock screen → Emergency → Medical ID

🤖 For Android (varies by device)
Add emergency info to lock screen
1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap Safety & emergency or Security & lock screen (may vary).
3. Select Emergency information.
4. Add medical info and emergency contacts.

How responders access it:
On most Androids → Press Emergency call on the lock screen → Emergency info

Don't Forget!
Update your emergency info whenever your medical details or phone numbers change.
