In recent weeks, I have become very aware of my own experiences of social media use and how these apps can pull us in for long periods of time, scrolling!
I’ve noticed my own behavior on social media and noticed how it makes me feel. Sluggish, unproductive and sometimes ‘not enough’ as comparison culture can come in depending on the content I am seeing. There can also be times when I am targeted by adds and I am convinced that I need to buy something. Lucky I can recognise these thoughts as untrue and unhelpful, especially because I am an adult with a fully developed brain. 🧠
So what have I done to target my own undesirable use of these apps:
📱 App time limitations - I have a timer set on Instagram for 15minutes a day.
📱 I have turned off notifications on all social media apps that do not require my immediate attention.
📱 I have removed apps from my home screen so I do not automatically tap into them (out of habit or boredom), when I open my phone.
📱 I have set a social media shut down time on my phone. All social media apps and work apps time out at the 10pm so that I can have a least an hour phone free before I sleep at around 11pm.
